I haven't been following the new ePub format development, so I am still confused.
When you upgrade to V2 and loose the Mobi PRC support, while gaining ePub support, what do you do with your existing Mobi PRC files????? Ignoring methods that require work like converting file format, do people upgrading to V2 simply throw away all their PRC files??? Am I missing something? |

If you want to stick with Mobipocket, upgrade to v1.5. As I understand it, v1.5 and v2 are substantially the same apart from the ebook DRM formats supported.

How did you manage to convert them en keep them readable? About half of my conversions Mobi->ePub with Calibre look bad. I lost all the margins etc. I read that you can correct that with CSS etc etc. But I dont want to spend my time learning to use some stoneage command line like formatting system, that I have to adapt for every single book. I just want to read and that is very simple in Mobi. Converting anything to Mobi is easy with the Mobicreator. Converting the same files to ePub is a gamble

I create all my eBooks by first making a Mobi version, and then using Calibre to convert the Mobi to ePub. It's never gone wrong - not once.

Ahhh, I see now.
In summary: Option 1: upgrade to V1.5 and keep using existing PRC files, ignore ePub Option 2: upgrade to V2 and use Calibre software to convert PRC to ePub thanks to everyone for the tips ![]() I decided to go with V1.5 and install Calibre to try it out. When ePub support matures and becomes solid (future upgrade) then I may move up to ePub and convert as needed. Again much appreciate help ![]() |

ePub support is pretty "solid" as it is now, Bob.

Unless you make sure you do not have any books (Mobi or ePub) with DRM, it is not a question of personal preference but in which format you get the books you want to buy.

I suppose what I meant to say is that I have no pressing need to convert right now and would prefer to wait for the software to mature. I just noticed some complaints scanning through posts, but not sure it there are any major problems.

As long as it doesn't have dictionaries, it's not solid enough for me though.

With the tools we have... well. I have a Gen3 with FW 1.5. If I can I buy my books in Microsoft Reader format. Next, Mobipocket. Next, ePub. And I've never needed it yet, but I would buy it in eReader. All of them can go down to PC and be free, so no problem.
