As I've said on another forum, I recently read the latest book in the Southern Vampire series and I did not really enjoy it. It felt rushed and contrived, and I'm seriously worried that the TV show is effecting her writing. If she continues in this manner, I'd have to debate reading any more.
I am not a fan of the TV show at all - I hate it when they change the characters so that they're more 'interesting'. The characters are interesting as they are and shouldn't be changed! The Kim Harrison books are excellent, and I'd definitely recommend them. |

I probably like the TV show better because I started with the TV show, not the book. So when I started the books, I already had Sookie, Bill, etc. in my brain.
I will definately try the Kim Harrison books. Thanks! |

I started with the show as well, yet I tend to prefer the books.
The characters are much more interesting in the books in my opinion. Nevertheless, I am waiting to see the third season of the show with impatience... |

Oh yes - Dark Hunter series is also great!
Current ones are fading a little, but there is still enough plot that you have to keep reading. Besides, you've got a dozen or so books till you get to this point! |

HA! True Mud....
I love to read entire series in one shot (well, one right after the other). It's like I voraciously rip through each book in the series and then when I get through with the last one, I'm either relieved it's all over and I can rest, or I'm sad there are no more. By the time the next one comes out, I'm lost (having forgotten the history/storyline) and not always all that interested. This particular series, however, I read one after the other, but in a completely random order (based on when the library got them), so I was forever confused. It was a great exercise in suspending knowledge, and an overall sequential adventure. I have to admit, it was kind of neat to read about something that happened and later read how it happened. For example, when Eric had that connection to Sookie, because of the month they shared or whatever.... I read about the actual month a few books after I read about the results ![]() |

i ended up feeling sorry for sookie - my god, she just reels from one disaster to another and gets beaten up/ badly injured in almost every book. would like the next book to give her a quiet break for a year or so! enjoy her life before she gets sucked into another disaster. I think i felt like this because i read the series too close together in time, although they are great books and i was completely sucked into them all.
i also loved kim harrison's dead witch walking series. |

It's exhausting reading them all back to back, and I end up forgetting what happened in each book. They are quick reads and I tend to re-read the series every now and then after a couple of new books have come out.
Lately I have been alternating them with other books to give me (or maybe Sookie) a break between stories. (Actually, I have been doing this with any series that I'm reading and I've been enjoying them all more that way -- not getting burned out on one character or one author, especially for longer series.) |
