Bookmarks used to work and now they don't. The color screen goes blank and won't "wakeup" from time to time where it worked before. I'm thinking about manually running the update again to see if I can get it to fix what is now screwed.

I have heard about the companies which do almost zero testing on the interim builds then yes, 3 days sounds about right. |

If I was running a project, I'd make sure the full test suite ran against a patched device (30MB sounds like they issued a partial patch, rather than a full firmware image, which is riskier and can introduce regressions).
And if you have automation in the mix, the suite can be quite extensive depending on how long it's been built up, and what metrics you also capture (battery life, for example, or running stress testing to find the mean time it takes for the device to crash). From this standpoint, I'm talking about testing an actual mobile device where you 'own' the whole firmware. The larger the project, and the larger the team, the more important it becomes to do full passes on final builds (and partial passes on interim builds instead to verify the fixes rapidly), especially when your patches aren't full copies of the firmware. I've seen stuff slip through many 'quality gates' only to be caught on the final full pass... especially when you have software running that can drastically affect the performance of the whole device. |

Well, I've seen people claim the Astak PP was faster than the Sony 505 and the Sony 300 is faster than the 505 and that the Kindle2 was faster than the Sony....ad-nauseum. They are all about the same as far as I'm concerned, not enough difference to mention. I suspect it's the same here, but do not have direct experience. |

What I care about is while I am reading do the page turns interfere with my reading. That said the nooks, orginal firmware did not for me, and their update does make page turns quicker and also does not interfere with my reading. |

I don't know what people are complaining about. I got my Nook on the 24th and downloaded the firmware before trying anything out - and it seems to have corrected all of the problems people complained about before. I don't get the "formatting" message every time I open a book - only if I open a new book. If I open a book and then open another, then return to the previous book, no formatting message. Also, the page flips are quick, the touch screen is responsive once you figure out how to push it right (i admit i had issues when i first used it to log in, but i quickly figured out an easy way to touch it right every time), and the only really long wait was when it boots up - since it's always on, that's obviously not an issue.
Overall I love my Nook. I admit I have not played with other ereaders to compare, but I see nothing negative in the Nook to make me want to return it. |

They need to figure out how to number the releases cause they seem to work by date and that just cause confusion. Also need to put it in zip format.

After reading this thread I looked at my software version and found it to be 1.1.1. I did not do anything to obtain this version, it is just there.
I have had this Nook since Dec. 14th and have only visited the "store" a couple of times. So....it seems that the 1.1.1 update is automatic. |

I guess I will do the manual update today since I'm tired of waiting for my nook to notice that an update is available. |
