I guess I should add that I'm physically taking the card out of the device, placing it in my card reader (which is incorporated into my PC), and doing the click and drag, then pull out the card and pop it back into the reader. I don't have to connect it via USB, which to me is a time-consuming nuisance. Again, YMMV. I do/did the same thing with my Cybook, which has all kinds of issues talking to my computer via USB, possibly because my PC is a POS. :-D

I do that too, as well as using a cable. A couple of points though, the card reader in the PC may well be running via USB anyway - mine do, so no speed advantage. Also, I find moving and SD card between the device and the PC, then back again, to take just as much time as plugging in a cable, the other end of which is already plugged in anyway, usually. The big plus is, when you use the cable, you get to access both the SD card and the internal memory in one go.

Actually SD cards have 4 bit wide parallel interface, not serial although there is a slower serial pin for legacy devices.

USB 2.0 sounds like a lot at 480 but this is bits, not bytes so the theoretical maximum is 60 and that is hard to sustain. It is unlikely the eReader can sustain anything close to that speed. It practice both SD transfer and USB transfer is likely to not take very long anyway so it is a matter of convenience. If you have an SD card reader in your device it is probably quicker than finding the USB cable around here somewhere.

And if you have a usb cable already lying in wait then just plug it in, no unplugging a card, finding the right slot etc. etc. etc.

Well, let's see.

SD Card = 2g.

Internal memory = 387m.
total book files so far = 257m, and that's after culling the duplicate Dickens and A.C.Doyle books, the 1800's cook books and the books in languages I don't read out of the "Astak 500 Free Books".

Won't take much more than another 200 files, if that, to fill the internal memory, but what's the point of having an SD Card slot if you don't use it?

My personal preference is to use a card reader as often as possible, and use the USB connection for ADE books (Library and BooksOnBoard, for instance), since they can't just be slapped onto the SD card using any old method available, and, of course, for charging the unit.

As for any differences in speed, its not like a few milliseconds here and there is going to make any real difference.

And besides all that, since the Reader automatically opens to the card anyway, switching to the internal memory would be more of a bother (and more often) than getting out a USB cord occasionally.

Am, however, looking forward to reading the solution to the problem.
