All I can do is call attention to the problem, which I have already done. The pub date for the ebook is wrong throughout all the stores, which may indicate that the ebook price is erroneously tied to the hardcover book. We'll see what my editor can do about fixing that.

As to your other questions, all I can say is, I hope so.

I hope the date and price can be fixed. Tor is notoriously bad at pricing eBooks.

Thumbs up

I always have a running list of a bunch of books that I'm reading, but even I have limits to how many I can read at once, so Neptune's Crossing has been on my to-read list for a while. I've cleared up some spaces and plan on starting it next week. It's very cool of you to put it up for free, so I wanted to say thanks for that.

Free books are a great way to drive me to buy later material. If I find an author whose writing I enjoy, I remain loyal to them. But there's extra cost in terms of time involved with trying out a new author (investing time and money in discovering authors you don't enjoy leaves someone with limited free time for reading very risk averse), and lowering the monetary cost definitely offsets that. David Webber and the baen free library hooked me this way.

I'm glad you found Neptune Crossing via the free download. Hope you enjoy it.

I have taken advantage of many free downloads myself to check out an author or a book I might not quite have wanted to spring for, or maybe wouldn't have seen. And I know that I've picked up a number of new readers from my free books. Seems like a win-win.

Now at Fictionwise

It turned out that it just took a little longer for Sunborn to make it into Fictionwise. It's there now, with a "new book" micropay rebate that makes it the lowest price I've seen online ($6.58 after rebate for club members).

It probably goes without saying it's also on eReader.com (managed by fictionwise; both owned by B&N), and for a limited time, with 50% rewards, resulting in a net cost of $7.

The eReader new release 50% rewards used to only last a week or so. It might be longer now, but if that's where you get your rewards, best hurry.

On the pricing, it appears that the high prices in some of the stores resulted from some kind of catalog glitch that pegged the "digital retail price" to the hardcover edition, not the recently released paperback. I've been assured that this is being corrected by the digital folk at Macmillan, and the prices should come down in the coming weeks.

Thanks for staying on top of it. I have read all 4 of these... are any of your other books available now as ebooks?

Yes, all but one of them. Most of them finally appeared in the Kindle store a month or so ago (still don't know why the last few haven't). But Fictionwise and Webscription have them all, DRM-free. I think there's still a package deal available at Webscription.

Cool... do you know, are they .azw and not Topaz? Which I'd love to buy them DRM free... if they are the same price I like to have them in my Kindle library and I can liberate them myself to put in my calibre/dropbox archive.

No idea, sorry. I just know they're DRM-free at FW and Webscription.

Seems the prices have not yet been fixed...

http://ebooks.addall.com/Search/eboo...gifields=sites

But, should this new pricing model actually work as the publishers say, it should be down in price on Thursday April 01, 2010.

Well, I was told "sometime in the next few weeks." Since the current pricing is apparently based on a cataloging mistake, I'd hesitate to call this a test of the new pricing model. More like a test of how quickly problems get fixed.

Didn't B&N announce a change to epub format? They're still selling all my stuff in ereader.

(Anyway--I'm more worried at the moment about the flooding we're getting here in the Boston burbs than I am about ebook prices!)

Well I have some good news for you. It's stopped raining. So now we can have things dry up as the weather gets nicer.

So once this new pricing comes out, all tor books should be dropped in price from the places where the prices are way way too high. I'm hoping this is so.

The end of the rain is indeed welcome. I'm with you in hoping that the Tor prices drop. I won't be surprised if it takes a little while, though. I've yet to see anything happen on schedule with this particular program.
