I've been checking at my B/N roughly every week to see if they have any available...

I've got the best of both worlds around me, there's a high volume 2 story B/N as the crown jewel of our downtown, and then I have a strip mall low volume B/N right near by. No one has any yet...

But, my question to the nook owners...

I know they don't give discounts to B/N Members, but what about B/N Maser Card holders? We get 5% back on all purchases made in store, has anyone noticed if that travels over to the nook side of things?

In checking the FAQ and the Terms and Conditions of my cardholder agreement, I can see no mention of it not applying. There is a blurb in the FAQ that pertains only to the hardware and warranty though...hrm.

Or should I just renew my buywise?

Newbie Nook

My nook is still on backorder, but I will be visiting this forum regularly when I do receive it.

Do you know of an exchange 'forum' or user group that works like a library loaning out nook books? Like a sharing pool concept?

Not sure how that would work, but someone must know.

Thanks

I just finally got my nook yesterday. I think the reason you aren't seeing more people is definitely availability. I ordered mine over a month before xmas.

It's pretty nice so far, although it does still feel a bit "beta". It's rough to move around (to look up words in the dictionary for example), and the swiping to turn pages is not very intuitive, although i did figure it out and can reasonably reproduce it now (the buttons are still much nicer).

It's certainly usable at this point though, and is only going to get better. I love it, but it's my first e-ink reader (I had an old rocket e-book back in the day), and I've recently been reading on an iphone, so the flaws may be more noticable to someone who already has a kindle 2 and/or sony.

It really seems great hardware wise though.

Welcome to MobileRead, rkolling.

No such 'forum' exists. However, have you checked your local library for ebooks? Many are stocking more and more in epub format.

Actually a site does exist or at least is in the planning stage. The following is from the B&N Nook Help Boards.

Quote:
Hi, we've started a new free (non commercial) social like web site just for nook owners. We are currently taking pre-registrations in a hope to get to at least 1,000 active members before we launch.

Membership is free. Members can form or join groups, send messages, add friends, and most important, share (loan) Nook Books to other members.

As an incentive to get members to join, we're giving away 5 free e-books for every 100 new members. NO, not 5 free books for every new member... that didn't come out right. Basically we're randomly rewarding 5 out of every 100 new members with a free e-book (retail value about $12.00)...

We're not sure how this will pan out, but we're anxious to get enough new members to give it a whirl.

If you take the time to regiseter, please use the contact us form (on the site) to send us your ideas of what you'd like the site to offer beyond what we've briefly mentioned here.

Thanks and hope to see you as a member!

You can visit us here: booksfornooks.com

Got one for my wife. She loves it and has purchased books from multiple eBook sites already. No 3G in Canada, but wi-fi and USB work fine. Software update 1.1.1 fixed things; more to come I'm sure.
