In that case, you need to repurpose the PDF for PDF reflow. This can be done with Acrobat Pro by someone who knows what they're doing - not me yet! ![]() Must learn the ways of the Force.. |

I have read one or two pdfs with two columns per page, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they reflowed correctly. I don't know if it depends on the design of the pdf or not.

I guess handling pictures and also PDF reflow/zoom also needs some processor power (?). Anyhow, just my thoughts as user thinking aloud on potential more features... ![]() ![]() |

I had a Kindle 2 - wound up giving it to my son, who loves it. I tried a 700 but the clarity was an issue, so I returned it for a 505. I preferred the 505 to the Kindle 2.
But the funny thing was, I didn't read on the 505 much, except on airplanes, in part because it was a little too large to carry around - until recently when it developed that Instapaper added an epub converter to its site. Now, I tend to use the 505 to read articles I've gleaned from the internet, and that reading gets done when I'm laid back in my Lazy-Boy. I also read short stories or other short material on the 505. Then the 300 came out. Turns out that it is perfect for lunch time reading - got a Tuff-Luv case which has a built in strut allowing the 300 to sit on a table at the perfect angle for me to read while eating. And if I get a seat on the subway, it's a good size to read on. But all I read on the 300 is novels. Bottom line - I've found that my enjoyment of my readers is in some fashion related to specific situations and particular reading materials. |

Now that Obama has left the city I can sit down with my Reader again.
Yes, I love my 600 and I use it extensively when I commute to work. December in Norway only means I have to find a seat with good overhear lighting but that is usually no problem. A great thing with the 600 that I have not seen anybody else comment is that whatever way you hold the device you can always flip out a finger or a thumb to turn the pages. I guess this is not the case with readers where you have to position your hand to be near a button to turn the page. Maybe this is not a problem with other readers, but for the 600 it means you can hold it wherever you find it comfortable on the device. I have also found it very useful for putting Word documents on that I use with my work, so I can do a quick read when I go on customer visits. The word documents are formatted beautifully with bullet/number lists and everything. When the surroundings are getting to noisy I just plug in my earphones and listen to music while I'm reading. There are of course lot of things I would have liked to see better, like the gray to be whiter, the PDF's to stay zoomed when turning pages and so on, but all in all it is a great little machine. I have to say, before I purchased my PRS-600, I did my research, to my dismay there was much talk of the glare being too much, the unit freezing up, and many other complaints. For this reason I almost didn't buy it. I went to my local best buy and looked at their display. I decided to throw the complaints to the wind and give it a shot. I am thrilled that I did!! I have a 500, a 505 and now the 600. The new features on the 600 make it my absolute favorite. I am lovin' the dictionary! The glare that everyone spoke of does not seem that major a problem for me. I found that I actually had to concentrate on noticing the glare. Yes, I will admit there is more glare on the 600 than the previous two models, but when I am deep in a book and truly enjoying it, I don't even notice any glare. As for the "freeze ups", so far, so good, I have not had a problem with that either. If you are even considering the 600, I say do it! My husband has now inherited my 505, so he is thrilled and the 500 is of being updated and will be our "back-up" if anything happens to our main readers.

Big screen and small factor... Really easy to handle. No freeze so far. |

I never liked the 700 as the lights got in the way. But the 600 is good.

I LOVE(d) my 505. I think I'm about to get a 300 and I'm sure I'll love that just as much, if not more. As far as I'm concerned, the Sony library is fine. It has never given me any problems, and it has had all the books that I have wanted to read, and whatever books it didn't have, BooksonBoard had them, or my library had them (the library books being one of my favorite features about the sonys).
Enjoy your 600! |
