This made me giggle actually. The new firmware 1.1 has just come out and now the Nook is much speedier! I saw the difference in person and was like wow it's a lot faster. Turning the pages doesn't have that lag that it had before when it was just firmware 1.0. It's faster now than the Kindle 2. Reading newspapers still has the formatted message when you first open it and the color display is still not that much faster but it's an improvement.

I'm not sure why you would think it would take a whole year for the Nook to improve because clearly with this super charged update, the Nook will only get better. I'm jealous because I only have a kindle 2 right now. I used to think the Nook looked a bit lame due to it's sluggishness but not now! No one can make fun of it now for being so slow.

If anyone sees the Nook in person at B & N, they might still be looking at the units with the 1.0 software. If it looks slow as hell, it def hasn't been updated. The 1.1 firmware has made a difference.

I wrote that after I received the upgrade. The Nook is faster than it was before, but there is still much work that needs to be done in the software before I can recommend the Nook without qualifications. It is a good device, and I believe it will get there, but it's not there yet.
