I can answer the first question. Only you know where you put your calibre library. The very first time you ran it, it asks for a location.

I assume you can recover that from time machine too.

I was suggesting you set up an empty library because you want to clean up "the mess". I assume you meant your old library was a mess of files that were actually managed by calibre.

I must say, you have me quite confused as to what your issue is and what help you need at this point.

How do you get library back in Calibre?
There must be a way, someone must know, how to put a large library back in Calibre one it is reinstalled. It doesn't automatically do it, as mine is now empty. I don't want to have to redo and put in one by one.

It usually does automatically do it. I'm not quite sure why it didn't work for you.

Did you try to start it from the command line pointing to your existing library?

calibre --with-library=/Path/To/Your/Library

of course your library would be the folder that contains the metadata.db file in it.

If it's empty and you didn't change the library location or delete it, then the previous install must not have been in the default location.
