I suspect quite a lot of people will do more reading on netbooks if other technologies like PixelQi become available. I'm holding off on purchasing another netbook in hopes that one will be available within the next year or two.

I'm all for tablets, but I do quite a lot of input and I rather hate almost all touchscreen keypad/handwriting solutions or mini-keyboards like that on the Kindle or on some phones. Some of those convertible netbooks were great concepts that would make fabulous ebook readers in theory. Reality needs to catch up a little.

Of course, a dedicated device would be great too, if it were better at actually viewing and navigating books.

I'm very interested in seeing what the PixelQi technology can achieve in tablets.

I do a lot of input as well--but I'll keep a laptop for that. Which is easy since my university provides faculty with a PC for the office and laptop for working at home.

But I'd prefer a tablet for reading and marking up PDFs and other larger documents. And a PixelQi screen might be a good way to do that with decent battery life and also being able to do web browsing, video, PDA functions etc. which don't work with e-ink.

I've been eyeing off netbooks recently, they are great for around the house with wireless, a little device to browse the web while in front of the TV. If I get one that would technically be my 5th device capable of reading ebooks!

I have a netbook, and love it,however I like curling up with my sony or ipod touch.Harder to do with the netbook, for me,and my netbook has barely 3 hours of battery life.I find that if I'm intending to mostly read or browse things online, and expect to do alot of typing, I will use the netbook. If I am just reading,I tend to use the sonys,if its a combination of both,I use the touch.

Its very much a personal preference thing.....totally understand about trying to curb the expensive upgrade habit, mine is better, but there's still room for improvement.

This should not even be being discussed. Why do certain people seem to need to "control" things. This is News and COMMENTARY - virtually anything goes. You may want things different, but they are not.

Report the post if you don't want it here...don't flood it with whining about placement (thereby bringing it back to the bloody top of the forum page you don't want it on).

As for netbooks...I would probably wait until CES or sometime around then before I'm confident about the direction netbooks are going to go in the immediate future. Some things like cell connectivity and service plans don't really interest me, and I really do hope there will be some future for sunlight-readable displays. My suspicions are that innovation with them will be minimal, but that's just me being pessimistic about the market.

So have I. But, like phenomshel, I'd like a tablet like device which runs Windows 7 and which is a bit stronger than the average MID. A decent HDD and processor power would be nice.

I've been looking at that new Asus Eee PC T91, but I'd prefer a real tablet, instead of a convertible... I'd not really use the keyboard (if I really need one, I'd rather use my MS natural).

For me, it would be my 4th device (not counting that silly HTC phone I also have installed mobipocket on...)

the problem is, that technology is in existence for a long time already. But it's sadly not being implemented a lot, except in the high-end PDA's.
