Actually some compacts let you shoot RAW too. My old Fuji S5100 for instance.
The main cost does come from the sensor. APS-C/4:3 sensors are proportionally more expensive than the "fit-on-the-tip-of-your-finger" variety found in compacts. The optical viewfinder assembly also presumably accounts for at least some of it. |
