I just downloaded a book in Israel from the Sony site without any problems. Having the region set to US and having a US address and credit card may have helped. And I'm pretty sure I had the same result while in Ireland.

Shortcover does care where you are - at least they don't like me being in Australia.

I still haven't gotten it to work. Everything set to US and I have a new best friend in the US (he doesn't know it yet). Sony still won't sell to me

Can you download one of the Google free books? If you can, adding a gift certificate to your account should do the trick.

You may need a virtual card, like I did. It seems some check and some don't.

I live O/S and use the Sony store all the time. I have a US address and credit card and found with the new software I had to change the computer's details to US instead of Australia. Worked a treat. We are Military as well and know that its hard to change any data on military computers so I hope you can sort it out. Good luck with it all and that free military book site looks great.

True, but you can only access them if your account is set up correctly. If you can, then the account is fine, and you should now be able to purchase a $50 gift certificate (one of the kind mobileread people will help here, do a search), add it to your account, and go shopping!

Just don't buy from Sony. ^_^

I made the purchase on www.booksonboard.com. It still requires American address. But all you need to do is just declaring an American address. It doesn't validate like Sony does.

You know, finding a US address is pretty easy if you have the Internet. Just pick a store like walmart, McDonalds, etc... go on their web site to "find a store near you" and locate one... use that address.

In case you don't know you can get free ebooks from the army via this link. Hopefully that works. You have to sign in with your AKO but it should work in Iraq for you.

booksonboard, No; Sony, Yes?

I can buy on the Sony site but not on the Booksonboard site.

I have a French card, and a US address; Booksonboard will not let me buy Julia Child's My Life in France, but Sony will. Perhaps they let you get away with it only once: I did buy on Booksonboard once; they recorded my card apparently, since, and now I cannot buy many books due to geographic restrictions.

I used Paypal twice, both times sucessfully. I guess Paypal will hide the credit card information. But I'm not sure.
