When I looked at my nearest best buys it said they didn't have any available. Yet, when I looked for another store I knew of it was listed as being available there AND at the stores it just told me it wasn't available at. ?????? I understand the coverage areas overlapping, but why the difference in availability? Makes no senses to me. I just wanted to know if the store I will be near this weekend will have one to look at. Guess I'll just have to stop in, even though I don't plan on buying.

$399 is doable, $450, not so much. No rush.

The web tool seems to be broken. The first search comes up unavailable but repeating it (for the same area or a different area) comes up available in all stores.

I think the Bestbuy just saw the monopoly on this item and it is the chance for them to maximize its profit.
To "punish" the greedy Bestbuy, I would buy one DR800SG, and open it and return it next day; and buy another one; and return it, and again.... until they don't allow me to return it. Since the returned item will automatically have 10% discount when they sell it again. they won't make much money on my item. This also will let the rest of us have chance to buy discounted open box DR800SG. What do you think? The only thing I am wondering is: is it legal? Since they have 30 days return policy, I think it is okay, right? |

Thanks for the notice. (I know, I know, I'm two days late.
![]() I won't likely be buying one anyway, but I love the higher profile that ereaders and ebooks are getting!! Yay! |

$450 seems a bit steep as well, as mentally I am starting to reasses where the price should be, likely due to the original price estimates for the que, dr800, crunchpad etc.
I am leaning towards the que, due to it's ability to display letter sized docs without much reduction, and the file formats supported. But I am reluctant due to the winCE OS, blah! I bought an Iliad for $800 based on being able to get newspapers and such, as advertised, and was very disappointed by that never coming to fruition. Then they redeemed themselves by giving users access to the OS for development, and that it was linux based. I am still on the wall. |

Seems like the best liseuse yet, in no small part because of the display size (not too large, not too small). If it comes down to $300 over the next year or two, it might just become the next device I aim to buy.

BestBuy has a restocking free of 15% for non-defective returns. I suspect this hurts irex more than bestbuy.
When the smaller nook/kindle is $259 and the larger kindle DX is $489, $450 seems so out of touch with reality. $350 would be more realistic. Irex's website hasn't changed since the original announcement, a stark contrast to the coverage and marketing of the nook which comes out a month later. I cringe when I think of the irex being showcased in the same area as Sharper Image products... It's also sad that there is a subforum for the nook and not for the irex dr800 (because there are no facts to talk about!). I had posted this before: ![]() The irex dr800 is only a little wider than the 6 inch screen readers. If the nook was at 1024x768, I would be all over it. 6" screen - $259 8" screen - $450 10" screen - $489 How is that out of touch with reality? There is a LOT more competition in the 6" market right now, that's what drives the $259 price down that far. Is $450 a bit high, probably. But "out of touch with reality"... really? |

The DR800SG's 8" display is basically large enough (assuming the eBook uses minimal or no margins) to display a 5"x8" book's content area in full. That's (5"x8", that is) just a bit larger than mass market paperback books.
Even Google Books PDFs might start to become reasonably readable (assuming the originals did not have huge pages). - Ahi |
