Interesting idea, but as others have said I think consumers are smart enough to pay a bit extra and get a device that does e-books AND wiki.

A lot of people also carry phones capable of browsing the web too so they can always visit wiki sites from their handheld device.

I can't believe that wiki is so heavily relied on as a source

I don't think anyone says that they rely on wiki as a source, but rather the opposite.

It's 100% as reliable as any other source available. Just like every other source you have to vet the citations and wikipedia requires all articles use citations or eventually they are removed. Usually there are warnings when citations are bad or absent.

If you learn to properly use resources like wikipedia, reliability becomes less of an issue.

yes, but if you venture out to many other boards, wikki is considered the be-all and end-all of "proof"/source

You can't reference wikipedia in a paper, though. It is an encyclopedia, but students aren't allowed to use it for references.

It would be fun to poke around on, but the price is way too high. You can't compare it to paper encylopedias on picing because they really aren't the same thing.

When these are hacked to be general ebook readers (around 1/83rd of a second after they hit the streets) I want one.
Just for the heck of it, I looked up that encyclopedia. It has 16,000 articles.

This thing has over 3,000,000.

I ordered a Wikireader. It was $6 for shipping, and I just got an email yesterday saying it could take up to 10 days to ship.

I only have a work cell phone, and it doesn't have data, so I am a target customer. Looking forward to trying it out.

I've yet to see that. I am fairly well traveled on the internet, and nearly everyone I come across says that it is useful, but not to be quoted.

Yes, but to be fair, after you remove all the biographies for characters from anime, manga, comics, cartoons, and science fiction movies and TV series, Wikipedia has 32 articles.
