Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realize Best Buy had such a generous return policy. Good to know and that certainly makes at least trying a DR800SG a no brainer. I seldom use Best Buy because they're usually higher what with sales tax and all. However, since I won't have a choice here, it's nice that I can at least buy and try with no risk. Now I just have to wait impatiently for the end of October.

The Good News:
Today I found IREX DR800 at bestbuy website
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218124206221

Bad News:
It's listed at $449.00 that's weird?

Best Buy's markup maybe? Or the exchange rate went up recently?

Well, today the DR800 is OFF of Best Buy web site. Irex confounds me. I have had great luck with their customer service when I sent my Iliad back and it was fixed and back to me within 7 days. BUT... having seen the company essentially abandon the Iliad when the DR1000 was released... and now having the 800 placed for sale and then pulled in a matter of days... makes me wonder. I guess I will wait for a few months and see what really is going to shake out on this device.

I wonder if anyone had a pre-order accepted? Just before it disappeared from the website it was shown as in stock at all the Best Buys in my area. There's one I pass on the way to my house so, more out of curiosity than expectation, I stopped in to see if they knew anything. Might just as well have inquired about a teleportation device

I know of at least one pre-order that is still outstanding: mine.

No need to see some conspiracy theory everywhere, when carelessness/stupidity are much more probable answers.

Some random Best Buy employee created a product page in advance, it's a common practice everywhere. He blotched the job, getting the products specs, availability date and price wrong.

After much coverage (the news was posted on big sites such as Engadget) Best Buy realized their error and discretely pulled out the product page for the moment.

still waiting

I am still waiting for some news of the release/non-release of the DR800SG. There seems to be TOTAL SILENCE in the biosphere! You would think Irex would have made some statement about the Best Buy debacle. Hmmmmmmmmm...

I preordered from Best Buy as soon as I saw it posted. I received an e-mail from them saying that my order was NOT accepted and/or cancelled. Very terse. I still haven't seen nor heard a peep from IREX.

My guess is that Sony doesn't want Best Buy selling another companies ebook reader.

So unless something happens tomorrow - unlikely - the answer to the OP's original question is "no".

At least we've made that much progress on the issue :]
