No problems with mine. Preordered it, notified on a Monday they were shipping, and I got it Thursday am here in Australia.

Had to RMA the unit last week due to paint problem. Again, no problems with communcation. Dropped them an email Thursday pm, and got the receipt overnight (local time) for RMA instructions.

You are right of course: a Hanlin V5 is the same hardware everywhere, regardless of the name on the box. I have no need to disparage Endless Ideas. The beBook Mini impressed me very much the moment I saw it. But Astak is selling a V5 in the part of the world I live in and gives me secure ePub books, a format I am willing to invest in. I think the ergonomics of an eBook reader must include how it enables the owner to access books thus it encompasses the books it can display and how you are enabled to display them. All those things together make the Pocket Pro a book reader I can get and want to have. It seems to me that all of that amounts to more difference between the different implementations than just “tweaking” the firmware.

I am the original poster - and it's as if you guys didn't read the rest of my post - I *previously* tried to get hold of them - calling for three days - then finally emailed the (the supposed fastest way) and got no response for 6 hours - If *you* don't call that crappy customer service, well, then I will...

...don't you think? Believe me, I am no way standing up for Astak... just saying that the expectations might be a bit high in this one case.

Of course if they say on their web site you get a call or response within 1 hour and it takes 2 days... then yes, that is bad.

I'm in Nashville, TN I emailed first thing in the morning waited till 3:30 pm with no response...

There should be an usb control (in the tray) that lets you "safely" undock the usb device.

I guess it comes down to one's expectations. Give them some time.

Call centres have operators sitting there waiting for calls to come in. Email can be screened in set time for the workers.

Smaller companies cannot afford to have someone sitting there all day idle waiting for e-mails to reply to. These workers will be multi tasked, and are busy doing other duties. Do be patient. This is probably the hardest thing to do when something's gone wrong with our prized purchase.
