I have a number of RPG rulebooks that I've purchased in PDF and I would love to read them on my Reader, but the screen's too small.

By going to the stretched form-factor on the screen, Sony killed most of my interest in the 900. The only reason I would have for buying a new device along with my current 505 would be for large-size PDF support - and the 900 won't let me put a large-size page on a single screen and still be legible. Sony managed the impossible - designing a device with a bigger screen that doesn't provide the benefits of a bigger screen.
Holy ships! Why can't the Sony 900 do large pdfs? That was the only reason it was on my radar big time! Irex seems a little lacking.

I wish there was more info on the Onyx Boox 8" model. That and the Netronix EB900.

The 900 is not out yet, we don't know what it can and cannot do.

After looking more at the Irex, it looks like a nice reader. I think my issue is all of the big boys will start at $399.

I was curious about the Irex; has there been specific mention that it would be compatible with reading library books? I understand it is supposed to work with non-DRMed file types, but I haven't seen anything specific on library books which I understand are DRM versions.

  3. I'm concerned about iRex support

The Sony presents me with similar and different issues.
  1. The New York Times isn't available for it
  2. No access to the B&N store's DRM scheme
  3. Possible glare (not sure about this; I haven't seen a Sony touchscreen model yet)

The decision is complicated by 2 additional factors.
  1. The Plastic Logic vaporware. My hestation with this device (besides it being vaporware at the moment) is that PL has no customer satisfaction/tech support track record nor does any PL device have any quality track record. And I don't know if the NY Times will be one of its partners.
  2. My Sony 505. It works perfectly and I am very happy with it. The only 2 problems are that it doesn't support the B&N DRM and it is too small for the NY Times even if the Times were available. But I could easily go on with my p subscription to the Times and reading books on the 505 for years to come.

So, I will wait for the Sony 900 and compare it to the iRex, and probably still procrastinate.
Wow, someone who still reads newspapers? you guys are a dying breed
I believe the Kindle gets the NY Times. My wife's DX also does reasonably well with large format things.
