I know it from the figures that you've supplied yourself. If you leave the Gen3 on permanently, you're getting 100h usage from it. Therefore, if you only left it on for 12h a day you'd get 200h, which is well over a week. Simple observation shows that the Opus has a significantly better battery life than the Gen3, so it's not unreasonable in that circumstance to expect a 2 week (or even longer) life.

My non-sleep period is 18 hours and not 12 hours. That will then be 5.3 days instead of 4.

I am still waiting for somebody to measure it since I do not trust the simple observations since they have been wrong before.

Imagine a Space shuttle pilot just before take-off who'd like to check the manual for some last-minute (pardon: last-second) instructions in ePub during countdown ... 15 seconds can be awfully long!

That would depend on the use case. I have many moments in a day with I have 40 seconds to read in, and I have books that don't need my full attention for a longer period of time to have fun reading. But I don't read them on my Cybook, as it's unsuitable for that.

If you are going to read 2 minutes than 15 seconds is a long time. It is also a time when you just wait and do not do anything else and that is a very annoying time. And I try to minimize the total number of annoyance interval per day.

I do not turn of my computers either to avoid being annoyed by the booting time.

Just to make you happy, Tommy, since I am primarily reading on my Sony at the moment, I'll fully charge my Gen3 and Opus, and conduct the experiment for you .

Is the startup time related to the number of books you have stored (like it is/was on the Gen III)? 15 seconds would be quite an improvement over what I used to get with about 300 to 400 books stored.

The Opus boots a lot faster than the Gen3. I've not noticed any slowdown with the number of books, but there again I haven't done any particularly accurate timings to find out. Perhaps someone else has?

Maybe it is only books in the top directory that slow down the boot?

That's certainly possible. I have all my books in folders on the Opus.

If I understand correctly, Bookeen have sensibly updated the metadata handling, that was slow on startup

I realize that this is an old thread, but I just wanted to make a comment. A lot of people have complained on MR about the Cybook Opus boot up time. I haven't timed it, but it doesn't seem long, and if it did, I would just leave it on. I don't read in 2 minute chunks ever (why bother?), and if I had a car, I would not read while in control of a car in traffic, even at red lights. There are a lot of crazy drivers out there texting, talking on phones and doing all kinds of distracting things, and if I didn't keep an eye on what's going on, something very bad might very well happen.

MY Opus is still taking 30 seconds to boot, despite update. (I had a corrupt problem having unplugged it by mistake from the computer without ejecting before updating: that's actually why I updated)

Any ideas as to what I can do?
