Just as an update, mine has still not locked up since I ejected the memory stick so fingers crossed that seemed to be my issue.

happy to say I was able to fix it...took a while though and even got a case number from sony to ship it back...
today no problems..
an advice to those who might have the same problem, generally when you connect to the computer through USB it does reboot after 3-4 minutes. however, in two accounts this did not work. If you have the same problem check the charge light (blinks orange). if you connect to the computer and doesn't reboot just take it of and wait a while. then try the turn off button a few times and the blinking light should stop (only the light. the reader itself does not turn off or accept and command). then reconnect through USB and wait a few minutes. it should do the trick.

Hello

I am a new member of the forum, and just a short while a user of the Sony 600.
I had the crash once (till now) it was a &%^$ to get it responding again :-( And very weird, my full accu bar dropped to just one bar?!

I read it till the warning came (Accu almost empty) and now it is recharging.

I have just one complaint, the charge of my battery is back to 1 bar after reading 2 books?! (that was before it crashed) When i recharged the charge light went off within the hour, but the accu bar was full 4 bars.
2 book later almost empty (one bar). That can't be right? Anyone else the same problem? Does it get better with battery conditioning?

Actually I was starting to wonder if it was just me. I'm having to charge my 600 at least twice a week, vs the once a week of my 505.

I've been having problems with my 600 locking up, too. It will lockup and nothing works to revive it, or so it seems. I finally called Sony. One thing I did learn is that after hitting the reset you have to slide the power button to get any response. I was expecting response immediately on pushing the reset and that's not going to happen. It locked up while I was on the phone with Sony or I never would have known this. I thought I would share in case there were others suffering the same misconception of the reset button. I'm waiting on it to lockup again so I can test it a second time. For the record - I've had 4 lockups in 2 weeks, so I'm still evaluating...

Hmm i start to get suspicious, do you read a lot of pdf? Since my crash i converted all to epub, and i have not had a crash since. Maybe coincidence, but it can be worth it to try ;-)
My crash was when i was reading the (Pdf) manual of the sony (ironic is it not ;-P)

You are very unlucky, i have to say that 4 crashes in 2 weeks would have me running back to the store! I really hope they will fix this soon with a firmware update!

Yes, 4 crashes in 2 weeks, I would return that sucker so fast. Anyway since the initial lock, my cousin bought a generic AC adapter and it has not lock-up since.

Well, I got a PRS-600 today, and it's locked up half a dozen times on me already. It's now completely bricked -- no amount of flicking the power switch whilst pressing reset or leaving it on the USB will bring it back to life. It's going back to the store in the morning for a refund, not a replacement.

Hi All,

My first post on this forum

I got my PRS-600 on Xmas day and had my first and so only lock-up on New Years day.

It had been connected to my PC. I updated the Reader Library software and organised my books into more logical collections. I synced the reader then disconnected from the Reader software. When I unplugged USB cable, the PRS-600 display said Re-starting please wait.. I waited 10 mins then assuming it has locked-up I pressed the reset button. This caused to reader to re-start and then just display "Opening Book...."

Nothing I did by way resets and powering-on seemed to do anything except cause the LED to flash.

In the end after lots of cursing I managed to recover it by piecing together advice from posts from a number of forums.

I got it to re-start and clear the screen by pushing the Reset button, then flicking the power switch 3 times. However, when I powered it on again it still just showed the "Opening book..." message so I did a hard reset by following the advice in this post from Sony http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/d...nalId=C1006375
btw you press the "home" key to select "yes"

The hard-reset wipes all content and restores the reader to its factory configuration. At this point I was able to re-calibrate the display and then re-load all my books.

Up until then I'd been really impressed. The PRS-600 is really nice to hold and the screen is easy to read. The Internet seems to be littered with tales of Sony eReaders locking up :-( Hope Sony releases a software update soon to fix these problems..
