Shortcovers is becoming one of my favorite bookstores: they keep having books I can't find elsewhere in ePub editions. I haven't had any trouble finding my way around on their site but I admit that if it weren't for this thread I probably would not have gone back after my first visit. It wasn't clear to me from the site alone that they are a straight bookstore that sells ePub books for download to portable book readers as opposed to reading books on my computer screen, on-line only. |

It would definitely be nice if they added some type of advanced search.

Just found this thread after finding Shortcovers was the only place that had a book I wanted in epub - and - it lets me buy it in the UK, too I'd prefer a better search facility, but what's there found what I was after, so can't really complain! |

(I was also looking for his London & Thames - both of which I have as pbooks, but would love as ebooks because of their sheer size! Unfortunately, Shortcovers doesn't have them, and the two places I'e found them won't sell them to me... ) | |

Got my 1st two books from Shortcovers. It took a bit to figure out how to download it to my Sony because I had not used ADE before.

Oooh, I just noticed they have some Stephen King books I've been wanting, and for a full buck less for the epub than the cheapest competitor.

Haven't purchased from them yet, but so far I like their offerings, and prices. However, I'll also say I'd prefer to be able to browse through by subjects, or categories vs. topics. I don't see a topic that will let me search for sci-fi books, or history, or anything. Just topics like "playstation", "iphone", "nobel peace prize". The "topics" might be nice if you're looking something related to the latest news buzz, but not if you're wanting to browse for a specific "type" of book. |

That doesn't matter to me as I only search by author and/or title. I only read authors that have been recommended. |

It looks good, but if I don't get the direct link, I can't find a book - so I don't think I'll be purchasing much there. (Can't buy what you can't find). I'd love to be able to browse by category (SF, Fantasy, Mystery, Romance, etc.) then sort by title, author, or release date. But still, it's great to see more competition. |

This is quickly rising in my list of e-book sites and I'm thinkin it's latched on to the number two spot and with just a few improvements it could become my site of choice. First, Lot's of good books in e-pub format with reasonable pricing, if you have a Sony reader or e-pub compatible device you have to love it. I have to agree with some of the earlier comments regarding the search engine and the site being somewhat confusing. My first look through the site I was convinced you could not download books - just read the first chapter or purchase and read on-line, or read it on a mobile device - but that is definitely not the case. As far as downloading books - I set my browser "FireFox" to download e-pub files into my Sony reader library. To my surprise that's exactly what happened when I downloaded my first book - right into the Sony e-book library. (I did not have to download it first into Adobe's ADE library and then export it.) I then downloaded it into my reader without a hitch. I'll repeat myself - if you have a device that reads epub files - you really should check out this site. good job! |

I got 2 books from them last night. One was free because they were nice enough to send me a coupon! I only got an email for one of them to download to ADE. The other one I was able to download from the site but it took me awhile to figure out how to do it as there was no download button for it. Questions: 1. The one I downloaded from the e-mail I ended up with 8 copies on ADE. Totally my fault but how do I get rid of them? edit- Never mind this one. I see how to do it now. 2. I really wanted to download them to my PC. Is the reason I couldn't because ADE was open and is there a way to do that now? edit- I figured this out too but it doesn't download as an epub. 3. If I would have had the Sony elibrary open instead, would it have downloaded to that? edit- I am thinking the answer to this is No. Last edited by benham; 12-02-2009 at 12:33 PM. |
