I don't get it. Why do people feel the need to have *all* their ebooks on the device at once? And don't you keep backups of these files anyway, on a hard drive or s DVD-ROM or online storage or something? (No backup would be risky, as ebook devices can be misplaced.) From that, it's an easy task to transfer hundreds of books at any time to a reading device. Say, once a year or so if you're a fast reader, more often if you buy/borrow new ebooks.

If I am wrong, please point me to the information you have that there will be a version of the 360 with 3G or WiFi?

BOb
watch the video again...the 302 is an interim model based on the 301 ergs rather than the 360 ergs. There is going to be a fully featured (maybe larger sized) version based on the design of the 360...hell, they show it in the video inside the case but specifically say it's not done yet.

A lot gets missed in the xlation that is for sure...but I'll watch the vid again too in case my meds were off... ...and yeah, they seemed to say there was a Wifi/3G version...and all based on the 360 rather than the 301 design.

EDIT: I just zipped through the video and it looks as if I was seeing the white 360 as the new/pending wifi/3g reader....but you are right, there is a 302 coming "real soon now" and I knew that part, still there is another design device that was mentioned as a concept build which is another design yet and not like the 360 at all.

Still I wish the interviewer was not as hyper as it seemed to induce some confusion for the booth staffers. Also, I remember earlier this year there was a big get together somewhere and they got to see and handle a 360. I would swear there was talk of a wifi/3g version of that design, however, they could have been referring to the 302. I hope not as that is an not so special design for me at all...looks no different from the ho-hum generic devices we see everywhere as "revolutionary"...

If I happen across any info about a 360 based wifi/3g version I will post it here or somewhere, but I am sure someone else will beat me to it... But that is the only design I care to even consider. I mean one might as well buy Sony or whatever otherwise they all look the same.

Just found an interesting video on YouTube comparing the 360 to the 505. What caught my attention was the control button on the 360 does make an audible click when pressed. That might be a bother to some people. I wonder of the button was chanced to a tactile-click only (as in a silent button) in the final production model?

For me that's not why I want an SD card, it's just really handy. Right now my computer can't talk to my PRS500 (Windows Vista 64 bit) so the SD card is a life saver. Nice to have, non? And I have heaps of cards lying around here (they go in my camera too). Plus, who knows what I want in a little while? Travelling with loads of books perhaps?

Thanks for the link. Oh, that click is a deal breaker! Dang, I *love* the look of the 360, love it. I find the click on my PRS500 sometimes annoying, and that's really quite soft. What about the Astak, how's the button noise? Anyone? Please tell me it's not as loud...

BTW, is there anybody from the Pocketbook 360 people who can confirm the button click noise is in the final production model?

I'm not sure I can convey how disappointed I am at the moment as I really was leaning towards the 360. Well, some of the time

The Opus simply displays ePub files better than any other device currently on the market. It has completely non-intrusive marginal numbers (on the Astak they are VERY intrusive); it has a large range of font sizes (12); it appears to support far more features of the ePub standard than many other devices do (especially the Sony). It's just plain all-round "the best" for reading ePub files at the present time.

I don't want all of them on there at once. The SD card gives me options of putting books there and transferring them between readers or computers easily. It also gives me a place to put mp3's if I like that are separate from the books.

As you say I keep a back up of my library/libraries. On two separate external hard drives.

I find the biggest advantage of having a SD card, you don't have to worry about transfer software at all. If you just can't connect your device to transfer (Linux + sony for instance?), how do you get your content to your device then?

And I forgot my cable, now I can't put that book on that pc. And that pc even has a cardslot!

It's all about the freedom you have. And I like freedom...

Exactly. Particularly when it doesn't cost any more.

I guess it depends on why and how you read. I read books for entertainment. What I read depends on the mood I am in. It may be a new book, or it may be an old favorite. I don't have a list of the next ten books I am going to read. When its time to start a new book, I 'stroll' over to my library and browse through the titles until something catches my eye. I wonder what it will be this time?

I will delete the really 'bad' books. However, even average books increase the possibilities.

Yes, the current model has rather hard buttons. But they're working on fixing them.

Stupid question perhaps, forgive my ignorance. Is it possible that firmware upgrades address the issue?

Certainly it's possible, but one should never buy a device for what it may do in the future; buy it for what you know it can do now.
