A bit of background from the guy coordinating the production and delivery of the WoT ebooks (that would be me):

The Wheel of Time books will all go for a DLP (Digital List Price) of $15.00 for the foreseeable future (yes, they are pricey, Artanian. You are, however, dead wrong in your assertions—but that's a conversation for another post. Suffice it to say that pricing is a much more complicated issue than you've ever made it out to be, and that it's ultimately out of our hands), and will be published one a month until they are all out. For those doing the math, that means that The Gathering Storm will come out in November of 2010.

It's available at all major ebook retailers including B&N, Amazon, and Sony. All are available as ePub files (which the nook will read, Browncoat Jayson), with the exception of Amazon, obviously, which is available as a Kindle Mobipocket edition.

All digital editions were created from one master ePub file hand-QA'd by yours truly, working from re-proofread, re-copyedited and updated manuscripts, re-typeset layouts and hand-coded source files from our suppliers, all double-checked by Team Jordan; however, each retailer converts and ingests the file in their own way, and results therefore vary. If you have a choice, and care about having the nicest-looking digital edition, buy it as an ePub from the Sony Store (a bit more expensive than Amazon and B&N, but you'll get nice formatting and a pretty, higher-res cover).

I'm working on a very extensive post about the process of putting these editions together, and going into much more detail about all of the above (and yes, I *will* be naming names, for those of you who follow ebook developments closely and are aware of the players involved). Might not post it on Tor.com, but I'll certainly link to it from this site.

And that's why I don't buy Tor.

I can afford to pay the price of a paperback for an ebook of a novel that's in paperback. I can't afford to pay in excess of 50% more.

The only format that it seems to be available in the UK is Adobe Digital Editions which I don't want to buy. Adode have a long history of flaky DRM systems that ultimately lock legitimate users out of their software.

B&N have it in eReader format, but not Fictionwise. I am not sure what is going on here, unless FW are just a bit slow to update?

Absurd. $15 for books that have long been in paperback is just ridiculous.

I had some interest in these--not at the moment as I recently finished the Dark Tower series and need a break before diving into another lengthy series. But at those prices, the hell with the series.

Amusingly, eReader just sent me an email with a 50% off coupon code because I haven't bought anything from them recently. I wonder why that is?

It couldn't be because they refuse to sell anything to me, could it? No, that wouldn't make sense at all...

I totally agree. I'm not gonna pay $15,-- for an eBook when I can buy it as a new paperback for $ 7,--

I'm on the fence with this series. I already own the series in pbook form, paperback and hardcover for the newer ones. It takes up a good chunk of space on my bookshelf. I've read the entire series more than twice and will probably read it a few more times over the years, but at $15 a pop, is freeing up that space on my bookshelf worth $150? Right now, that space on my bookshelf isn't worth $150, but in 2 or 3 years, if the series is offered in a single bundle for say...$50 to $75, then that's another story.

This is totally stupid t release eBooks long after the pBooks exist for $7.99 and charge almost double the price.

If they went to the effort of doing a new cover image then you have to wonder why they made one thats just as bad or even worse than the old one.

Regardless of whether its affordable to somebody or not, you also have the principle of the matter to consider because it is totally ridiculous to be trying to charge more than the paperback.

About the only thing more stupid than their pricing of the earlier books is the idiocy of the release schedule that results in the newest one not being out as an ebook for over a year.
