There is no way I will upgrade without a good night reading solution but at some point my 505 may die or break (those @#$@# screens are fragile) and I will be forced to "upgrade". They should at least offer a mini-lightwedge cover for the 300... Sigh... -Greg |

That's what I got to thinking when I looked at my 505-with-Lightwedge tonight and thought about where the page turn buttons are on the 600. I think it might interfere with them, but without having a 600, I don't know for sure.

Kidding about the handsomeness but would def. find a constant reflection to be a bit distracting to the reading experience. Also, does the 600 retain the page scroll function from the 700? Where you can flip the page and hold it down and it'll scolled through pages without any noticeable screen flicker? I'm also guessing it also has word search like the 700? The scrolling can be seen on this video at about time 1min for the prs 700. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MeW33inb_c Last edited by MerLock; 08-28-2009 at 12:00 AM. |

Yes, you can angle the reader so that the reflections aren't distracting, and I was able to read without distraction. It is pretty reflective, though.
I think I could put the 600 in the lightwedge cover, but I'm afraid to take it out of the plain cover once I got it in there. I'm afraid that tab will break off if I mess with it too much. It's a tight fit. The page turn buttons look like they would be available under the lightwedge. My lightwedge seemed to actually touch my 505 screen on the right side. I really wondered what would happen if the lightwedge was constantly touching the 600 screen. Would it be constantly checking for input? Would the battery drain quickly? I need a reading light, too. I often have insomnia and end up reading all night long. My husband has to work, so I need a light that allows him to get his sleep. I gave the Mighty Bright Telescoping LED clip-on light with 3 LEDs another try last night. The actual light on the Mighty Bright looks very much like the light in the new cover with light. It worked pretty well for me when I clipped it on the front of the cover and angled it toward the top of the reader. That allowed me to see the screen without any distracting reflections. It didn't make the reader and cover feel a lot heavier - probably no more than the 505 in the lightwedge cover. Putting it on the front cover seemed to balance the weight with the reader in my other hand - if you can see what I'm trying to say here! All in all, it was probably about what you can expect from the cover with light, but it does give me options of what my actual cover will look like. That Oberon Roof of Heaven in sky blue is calling my name! Edited to add: I already have an organizer notebook by Oberon. I have the Tree of Life in saddle design. That thing is so beautiful that it makes me want a reader cover despite the corner straps. After all, I think the interior leather of the Oberon covers will be black, so that won't look bad with the red reader. The sky blue will only be on the outside. I just tried it on my 600, and it works! I see the pages flick by, but there is no black page between each page. It goes quickly, but you can still see the page numbers at the bottom clearly enough to stop when you see the page you're looking for. I hope I explained that well. (Edited to add: I just watched the youtube video, and my pages looked like her pages when they were flicking by.) There is word search. The only way know how to do it is to double tap on a word. It displays the definition of the word at the bottom of the screen, with options to search for the word in the book (forward and backward), or to open up the actual dictionary. I can't remember if there is another function - I left my reader in the other room. I don't know if there was another way the 700 did it, but I'll try it out if you tell me how the 700 worked. Okay, I decided I'd try the 600 in the lightwedge case. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit. See the attached picture. You can see that the lightwedge covers part of the top bezel, and therefore, leaves part of the bottom of the screen uncovered.
What you can't see in the picture is that the lightwedge doesn't lay exactly flush because the black battery compartment rubs against the "spine" of the 600. Because there is airspace between the wedge and the screen, the text is very blurry. Dang! |

Well, it was worth a try...thanks for letting us know! Now I can put off getting one for a while, since I just got the Lightwedge recently and I really like it.

Light did bleed out the edges of the lightwedge, but I didn't find it bothersome. It was enough to light up some area on my side of the bed, but it never seemed to interfer with my husband's sleep. And yes, my daughter got a scratch on her screen. It was her fault, though. It wasn't just normal dust that caused the scratch. She had gotten some sort of sticky gunk in there and let it dry. When it dried, it messed up both the lightwedge and the screen. So scratching was possible, but I think it took some extra effort for it to occur. |

Just for fun I removed the light wedge from the light wedge case (it snaps in and out) and used a rubber band to attach it to my 505 in the leather case. I had the rubber band around the black part of the wedge and around the case with the cover folded back. I found it very usable that way. Perhaps there is hope for rigging future readers this way as well.
Regarding those that don't think the light is better than a clip on, i have to say I can't understand that point of view at all. The wedge works so great. The clip on lights don't light evenly and I find them just terrible to read with. I ended up buying a head lamp instead which really sucked since if I turn the wrong way I shine it in my wife's eyes, wake her up, and scare the crap out of her. As JanetCinNC experienced, I never had the light wedge interfere with her sleep. Anyway, I hope Sony gives us the light wedge option or that the clip on light they sell really works (looking forward to the reviews). -Greg Last edited by Greg G; 08-30-2009 at 12:56 AM. |
