to me the 505 makes only sense for text based books without any kind of picture or even a listing of things is going to displayed wrong with larger fonts

why waiting for the plastic logic? it seems to get only about 50$ cheaper and is not that developed like an irex device i think

i would buy an irex now ... except you dont want to read anything else than books with plain text, then there would be no other choice than a 505

Before the hack if I held the 505 with my right hand it was pain to turn pages , but with the 2 joypads as page turn, either hand can use one of them to turn pages.
Also I like the hack turn off with center button held for 5 seconds. Shuts the unit down completely and not on stand-by. I don't have to recharge the 505 for a month or 2 and leave it turned on when I use it and put on standby if I take a few hour break.
At first I used the standby button at top of unit, and it gave me 2 to 3 week battery life, NOW if I know I'm not gonna be using the 505 for 10 hours or more , I push center button and turn it off, restart from cold takes about 35 seconds. Standby mode is 1/2 second.
Using the centre button for page turns would be great (it just flashes up a forbidden icon at the moment), I'll investigate the hack section...

Hmmm, found the customiser software, can't find an option to make the centre button a page turner (on the right hand side, in the middle of the direction buttons), only the arrow keys which are again somewhat fiddly, the centre button is a nice easy one to press.
Any info on how to utilise it for page turning would be appreciated.

Just got my 2nd 505 today..a nice shiny red one. So love the 505s. Not happy with this case though, it's almost like the top clip has been stretched a bit. Have to find my old one from my Silver 505.

Mine's the red one too, from John Lewis @ £149. No doubt they'll be knocking them out at £99 within a month when the 300/600 is released!

I don't think you will. The center select button is too important for menu selections. Besides, the side buttons on both round controls are easier to press.

No idea why, but the Sony 300 is slightly faster in turning pages than my Sony 505...

Shame, the round centre button serves no purpose at all whilst reading, seems a missed opportunity from Sony to make that an extra page turning button whilst 'in' a book.
Ah well, only a minor gripe anyway, I love the device - downloaded & read a fair few books already, currently rereading 1984 after finding it on these forums

Yes it does, that's the button you use to go to a specific page number after keying in the numbers on the right hand side.
