Quick update: called the site today, it's been sent in for repair. Estimated time until I get it back: 2 or 3 weeks... guess I'd better stack up on dead-tree books for my vacation...
By the way: still silence from Bookeen. |

I guess Bookeen was really swamped, since I got a reply to my original mail today.
It was a friendly suggestion to format the CyBook... which obviously wouldn't have worked, since it doesn't even show up as a removable drive, so there's nothing to format... ![]() Also, wouldn't that leave the device without firmware? Anyway, it's all a moot point since my CyBook is on it's way to France (or where ever they send them for repairs).... I thanked them for their time and informed them that I'd sent it in. |

Interesting... from what I'd read so far, the firmware was stored in a system folder on the internal memory. I'll keep that in mind once I get my CyBook back. |

What is stored in the system folder are some files that the firmware needs. I think the big file is some character set database.

So how does it work? Is real firmware code uncompressed and put into the user accessible partition? And should it not depend on the firmware version how it works? It seems strange to depend on the frequency.
I thought i had a 400MHz Cybook but the firmware is 802 so I cannot see the frequency. But it has the system files I described. |

If bookeen put some important system file on the user partition on the 200Mhz, this should be due to limited space in the application/firmware partition. They should correct this on the 400Mhz, so there is no more firmware important files in the user filesystem.
If I am correct, the 802, is only for the 200Mhz version, that's why it doesn't display the CPU speed. Does your serial number include EB600? or something like EB001? If it's the second one, you have a 200Mhz version. (Thanks for the people of mobile who came to the Paris RV to let me check their serial number) |

Help needed!!!
Hello all!
I own a first generation Cybook, bought from NAEB and it works fine, I use it every day!. A few months after I got mine, a friend of mine decided to buy one too, but did not used it very much, because of the small quantity of french language books. He recently gave me his, because he said that it did not work anymore... I love a challenge, so I decided to make it work... So far, not too much success... First things first, I read about all the posts I could find on frozen cybooks. Armed with that knowledge, I tried my luck. It is a 200mhz 64mb Cybook, I am not too sure which firmware, but it has never been updated. Here is what I did.: 1) check the SD card, it was not corrupt. Tried to connect the Cybook to my computer, it does not show. Tried it again with my own cable which I know works, same thing. 1) Charge it overnight with the wall charger No luck at restarting, it freezes at the fist screen and the green light stays on. tried the reset then restart, same thing... 2) Disconnected the battery for 4 hours, then tried it again, no success 3) Tried to reflash it with build 796fmt. No success I waited with my finger on the center button for about 2 minutes and it never started to blink... Any suggestions, before I send it to Bookeen ???? My reputation is on the line! Regards, Georges |

Well, finally some news from my end... almost 5 weeks after sending in my CyBook, it turns out that it can't be repaired. Though from what the person I talked to told me, CyBooks weren't being repaired at all.
I was offered the choice between a full refund, or a BeBook 101 with a refund for the difference in price. Not sure which option is better... does anybody know how the BeBook 101 compares to the CyBook? |
