Shipping, repairs, and shipping back were all paid for by iRex.
En, that is good. I remember your screen is broken seriously.

I think it were clear, because I use to clear it frequently.

Isn't there a screen protection sheet available for this device?
Since I scratched a few touchscreens, I don't use them any more without screen protection.

Ahoy, Warriah. I'm so sorry about the scratch. That's horrible.

What happened in my case was that a piece of grit (probably a shard of glass or sand) became lodged in the nib of the stylus, and when I used it, the grit was dragged across the top layer of the screen like a scalpel. It's possible the same thing happened to you. Definitely check the nib of your stylus for foreign matter to prevent further damage.

It's probably not much consolation, but please believe me that while your eye is drawn to the scratch right now, after a few days you'll start ignoring it while you read, if you haven't already. I was finding that started to happen even in the day or two I had my reader before I sent it back in, and I'm pretty obsessive about blemishes.

Dang it. I'm sorry, Warriah.

Just a thought (and I have no experience of using these things but..).

How about looking at one of those "CD recovery kits" to see if it could be used to take scratches out of the screen? As far as I understand, they effectively like a "T-Cut" for CD's for polishing out scratches. Could one of these kits be used on the DR?

It could be worth a try at least? Perhaps even a car type "T-Cut"?

I wouldn't try that without first getting a green light from iRex. The screen has a very slightly pebbled surface that seems vulnerable to this technique.

I believe there are anti-glare and anti-scratch chemicals on top of the screen, that's probably what you're seeing. Any polishing technique would probably remove those.

iRex wont give you the go ahead to do this, but if they are going to charge a small fortune anyway, it may be worth a go.

First, I'd find out if it would be covered by warranty like the other poster's was. Only if it wasn't would I start to think about techniques yourself to get rid of the scratch (which may also remove other coatings on the screen).
