I shall undertake this Quest!
Seriously though, I got a scrap of the file from Gideon, and I'm going to try to throw together a quick Python script that I shall post anon. - Ahi Last edited by ahi; 06-04-2009 at 08:54 PM. Reason: resolved to make only a slightly lesser fool of myself |

Well, mjh215 nailed it. There was a space before the non-paragraph line endings that both Harry and I missed. If I had noticed it I could have done something, but I just didn't see it at all... but Mjh did! Well done! And Thanks!!!!!

I don't think you missed anything, "mjh215".
![]() I should note though that I am 99% certain that my previously described methodology would also have worked on this file. Since the need ceased, I didn't force myself to figure out that python script yesterday after all... but when I have it, I will post it. I think it will be remarkably good at removing line-breaks while preserving paragraph breaks... (almost) regardless of what format is used. In the case of Gideon's file, the second most common whitespace weight being 1001 (space + return) would have identified it as the linebreak sequence, while 1000 (return only) would have been identified as the paragraph break sequence by virtue of being third most common. - Ahi |

Thanks, Ahi.
It's funny -- I see it the other way, too: sometimes the space is only at the paragraph hard-return. The other hard-returns are without. Either way, useful, and not obvious. Good luck with that script, and I'll gladly experiment with it. m a r |

Sorry Rogue.. mjh took a look at a piece of the file and actually fixed it. By the time you made your suggestion I had quit mucking about with it already. I then went ahead and fixed it myself. It was something I had a hard copy of so I wasn't willing to spend TOO much time on it, but glad it was resolved and now I know some new tricks. Thanks everyone!

I still do it the old fashion way, lol
Kind of hard to explain so I posted some pictures. In word, I just paste the text 1. http://www.fileqube.com/file/UhjKpyQdK201072 Then add some symbol at the end of each paragraph manually Something like #@ 2. http://www.fileqube.com/file/bGtkOzhn201073 I use File / Replace and put the symbol ^p change all so it looks like this junk... 3. http://www.fileqube.com/file/FLOIaCe201074 Then replace again my #@ with ^p 4. http://www.fileqube.com/file/UfotRD201075 At the end I end up with this 5. http://www.fileqube.com/file/ZUQYTJCm201076 slower than an automated program but I still like the old way where I'm sure its doen the way I want. I also use a keyboard with a cup and paste macro key so makes it easier.
