At home, yeah sure. But what if you're waiting at a bus stop or train station where there's no wifi and you've run out of things to read?

Like the sign says, "Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency for me".

I've got more than 500 books stored on my iPhone, but sometimes, that's still not enough. It's not really lack of planning. Books get transferred to my iPhone as soon as I purchase it, but quite often, I still can't find anything I want to read.

Well thankfully these scenarios you are presenting don't apply to you as you have an iPhone.

Since I need a femtocell for my place before I even consider an iPhone (I'm hoping ATT might announce availability to coincide with WWDC), a CL Touch was for me. Especially since I have learned how to transfer the books to my jetBook.

I'm the opposite, I have to stop myself from buying more books until I force myself to finish the ones I have.

My main concern is battery life for the MiFi. I use a broadband wireless card with an unlimited plan for my laptop and can share the signal with a bit of hoop jumping. It is powered by the laptop, so I'm not sure if the MiFi is worth it for me but it sure sounds cool.

Battery is rated at 4 hours typical use and about 40 standby. Recharge via wall adapter or USB.

I'll report back with my experiences.

Yep. That's the reason I got an iPhone and not an iPod Touch. Another is because I read a lot of fanfiction. I love being able to discover new fanfics and read the latest available chapter immediately after release. In fact, I love it so much I made a PHP script that generates a Stanza catalog for my favorite categories on FanFiction.Net where I can download epub versions directly to Stanza so I wouldn't need to use Safari.

I picked up mine today, verizon, not sprint in my case. I am very impressed so far! I do not plan on watching much youtube with it (5 GB.month cap.. 5 cents per mb after that). But for the many times I find myself away from a wifi hub, it is going to be very useful for web browsing and audio streaming via my iPod Touch.

Will report more as I play with it some more.

Four hours is not enough for me. The way I'm set up now I don't have a cap for my $70 a month and I don't have to charge my Express card.

I'm still interested in your experiences.

I still find the font hard to read but at least I can get white text on black background, which makes for much easier reading especially at night.
Have you considered, perhaps, not reading in light where the text is hard to read? It might solve the problem.

Or do you think that it would be better if the program was modified to the way you like to read, rather then the other way around? Perhaps the anti swipers would like to read they way that they are comfortable, rather then having to adapt to a weakness in the program.

For myself, I hate the swipe. Its a big motion, where a tap will do, it sometimes doesn't work because I don't make it long enough, and worst of all, in the new version of the reader, it sometimes causes me to go bakwards instead of forwards if I happen to swipe into the tap zone.

The Kindle reader, IMO, started out as a - not really usable - proof of concept, and it has evolved into almost a very good platform for reading. I have high hopes for version 1.2.

Careful with the overage. Only Sprint is 5 cents / MB. Verizon is 10 cents (and has strangely disabled the card's GPS).

I'm hoping I'll have mine next week and we can compare notes.

I believe it can be used indefinitely while USB-connected to your laptop, but it may not support sharing in that configuration.
