There is a setting for the auto shutdown time in the usual place (Settings->Power Management), but even setting it to "Never" (corresponds to value -1 in the .ini file) causes the DR to shut down after some time when not plugged in No idea how to stop it.

I don't think you control the (erstwhile) zzz time anymore, but it defaults to 10 (seconds, I presume) in the .ini file.

What sort of battery life are people getting with the new firmware?

I must have messed up somewhere. Power management runs fine.

I had the device running for about 10.5 hours straight with firmware 1.6, during which time I intermittently finished reading 3 comics, 1 pdf magazine and 4 pdf journal articles while furiously switching back and forth between them and 2 other pdf reference textbooks. Oh, and I scribbled all over the articles. After about 10 hours (the battery read 18%), I took about 15 pages of notes for 30-45 minutes, at the end of which I got a battery warning error (and a red light).

Not too bad, methinks If you compare the actual number of page turns, it won't stand up to the Kindle's 5000-7000 turns, but the DR has a full fledged OS unlike the Kindle. With a little discipline (shutting down when not using the device, although I did not do that for the above test), the DR is acceptable.

I later left it connected to the Tekkeon MP1550 (available at Newegg) battery pack with 4 rechargeable batteries (2100mAh) for about an hour, and the battery had charged up to 60%. Since we know that the DR packs a 1140 mAh, this *should* be usable for nearly 2 full charge cycles, although I have not tested that. I might velcro the battery pack to the DR or the leather case and pick up a right-angled connector, to have the option while on-the-go. One can always detach the battery pack with velcro.

I mainly use the DR for reading technical books in pdf .
Now with !.6 is really fast to turn the pages and thanks that Zz think is gone .
The other features like writing I really can´t tell .
Other issue is batery life , I think its bigger , besides not too big .
And mine 1.5 never displayed between 87%to full charge .
Now 1.6 I can see high numbers like 90% or 98% .

I have firmware V1.6 and started off with my DR battery indicator at 100%.

I had it switched on for 4 hours yesterday with occasional page turning (battery was at 65% remaining when I switched it off). I used it for 8 hours today, occasional page turns and a few scribbles.

Its just come up with the "battery almost empty" message. That's 12 hours with occasional page turns and a little bit of scribbling. That's just one day of testing - but its an indication.

Wow – you guys are getting a lot more out of your batteries than I do. I finally decided to clock it carefully. I started out by having my irex plugged into power (and switched off) for at least 48 hours. It did show 100% charge when I started it up.

Total time: 6 hours, 44 minutes.

Usage during this time varied a lot, sometimes with leisurely page turning, occassionally frantically switching between documents, and I shut down and rebooted six times. Including down times, the experiment lasted about 54 hours. One odd thing: sometimes it would indicate a higher charge level on rebooting. The most extreme example: 31% at shutdown, 53% at boot six hours later. It warned of low battery at 7%, and shut down on its own six minutes later. Because of this effect, I strongly suspect that I would have gotten much less time, maybe only four hours, if I had never shut down.
