I just find a comfortable seat somewhere and get out my reader.

I've only had a couple people ask me about it though. And aside from my husband and his PRS700, I've only seen one other person with an e-reader. That was when I was vacationing in Cabo. There was a lady reading on a Kindle poolside.

Well I guess it's time for me to start shopping for a new purse then!!

A coworker who owns a Kindle 1 spied the Kindle 2 on my desk in its Amazon cover and knew instantly what it was. Another coworker feared that I was carrying a Bible around with me. To my eye, the dimensions aren't quite right for even a New Testament. (What about a Book of Mormon, though? Hmm.)

I carry it everywhere downtown. I read it on park benches and in restaurants. No one else has uttered a peep about it. Sometimes, when I'm carrying it at my side, people look at it a little saucer-eyed. Maybe there is something to the Bible-appearance thing.

Here in New Zealand there are no official suppliers of e-ink readers that I know of so I get lots of looks and quite a few questions about my 505.

The funniest one though was when I was on a business trip to Europe. I was on a BA flight from London to Prague and spent 15 minutes of the flight at the back of the plane talking to 3 of the flight crew about it and where to get books etc. One of them had asked me to come up the back all the way from row 6 (of about 40)

I open mine up and read it everywhere possible. Its amazing how getting stopped by a train used to bother me. Not so much anymore.
I have yet to see anyone else reading with one. I just can't imagine not having it. I swear if it broke today I would be scraping up money from somewhere to run out and buy another one. Actually, last night I picked it up off the cabinet that I keep it on and as I was walking to my chair it slipped out of my hand. I thought I was going to have a heart attack! Well, it just kind of slid down my body and I caught it before it hit the ground. Made me realize even more that I need to get a case.

Glad you caught it!! Mine actually has a damaged corner from where the previous owner dropped it - On Sony's, the plastic endcap tends to push up into the case when it's dropped, causing the end to bulge out until you free it up. Aesthetic damage only once you get things back in place.

I highly recommend a case though! I have an M-Edge case in mocha (such soft smooth leather.....), and am waiting for the Oberon Design cases to become available.

When carrying my reader in my purse (a daily event for me) I have it in the M-Edge case, and then I have a nylon shell case that has a velcro flap closure that the M-Edge case slides neatly into. This provides additional protection for the open edges, as well as preventing general purse clutter from marring the leather on the M-Edge case (which I ocassionally find myself petting - the mocha case does have such lovely leather - the black and the saddle cases my parents have are pebbled leather, which I don't like as much)

Sooooo looking forward to an Oberon case!!

Hi Mare,

Where did you order the "Nylon Shell Case with the Velcro". This sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, and I'm also looking for something to protect the ereader AND case from purse clutter. I have already been looking at the Book Armor, but I think that's a little different.

So off I trot with my brand new 505 thinking I'll get stopped and questioned by all and sundry and, sure enough, I've been on the train about two minutes when the conductor turns up and says "Oh, a Sony Reader. I've got one of those". There can only be a couple of dozen in the whole country!

I did hear a rumour somewhere - was it another thread on here? - that Dymocks may start selling 505s in NZ sometime in the next few months.

I have read with my sony all around town as well, but only once has someone asked me about it. I like to read in the movie theater before the lights go down and in restaurants while waiting for food. I belong to another board though and I have professed my love there. I loved to be asked! 2 have bought on my rec. I should get commission... Or free ebooks!

My Kindle 1 and my Sony PRS-505 go with me everywhere. They live in one of the sections of my backpack when I'm not reading. I do get approached regularly with questions and it's nice when I can pull out the "other" brand and let people compare them.

As for carrying a book reader to the hockey game ... I carry mine to the movie theatre. I read until they take the house lights down and start showing the coming attractions. Much more entertaining that the continuous stream of advertising that precedes the feature.

I printed my cards on those perforated Avery business card sheets they say:
---
Sony Reader PRS 505 (www.sonystyle.com for specs and details)
Can purchase online through ebay or B&H photo video NY (www.bhphotovideo.com) or in person in the US and Europe
Best software Calibre (calibre.kovidgoyal.net)
Best source of ebooks www.fictionwise.com and www.gutenberg.org (and tons of others)
Best source of additional information about this and other ebook readers www.mobileread.com
And it is the best gadget I have ever owned.
---

I figure that covers pretty much everything anyone might want to know. It surprising how pleased people are to get all that info.

That is really simple, detailed information. You deserve some karma for that.

Nice to hear of another sony reader owner in NZ!

As for Dymocks I think it's unlikely. I don't think they'd sell one without having the content to go with it and they recently stated that they were postponing the introduction of digital content in NZ (link)

ME TOO!!! I actually hate it when people try to talk to me while I'm reading...even if they're trying to find out what I'm reading!

I get this all the time. I travel alot and spend loads of time alone in hotels, so I quite often get asked about it. It can get quite annoying, as sometimes all I want is to be left alone with by Ebook and a beer.
