As I mentioned in my last post, Fictionwise DID COME THROUGH with an email response that explained what I was doing wrong. I thought I was following their instructions on their FAQ/Help pages and entering the last 4 digits of the credit card number, when it requires the ENTIRE credit card number. I am not trying to be inflammatory, but the part in your reply that I've highlighted above is incorrect (or partially correct). You don't have to enter the credit card you used to make the purchase, you have to enter the credit card number for the one you have on file as your "Secure eReader Unlock Code" and it can be different than the card you used to actually make the purchase, but it might in fact be the same. I only point this out so it might assist someone else. I'll now vouch for Fictionwise as a reputable company and thank them for the response, even if not as timely as I would have liked. I can't say though that I'll ever buy another eReader book from them. I must now download a local copy and keep the exact name and credit card number on file if I ever hope to activate this book again on another computer, Blackberry or other device. I really don't like the Unlock scheme and will seek a format and reader that are more stable (that credit card is liable to drop me tomorrow). I wish they would all go to the open source identification that websites are gravitating toward: OpenID. That would mean that if I sign on ONCE with my OpenID, it will authenticate my books as well as my websites. Ahhhh.... its a dream, but alas a very hazy dream. |

This DRM is one of the better ones, it is device independant and is directly supported by fictionwise who has great consumer relations. And since you pointed out that it's a CC that is registered with FW, all you have to do in the event that you forget the original CC is to register a new card at fictionwise and re-download the eBook. =X= |

More kudos for Fictionwise
After I purchased 'The Dante Club' from Fictionwise and got it unlocked I found that the formatting on my Blackberry contained errors which rendered small black squares in many (but not all) places where commas and apostrophes were used. The text for this ebook rendered perfectly on the Windows eReader software and other ebooks rendered perfectly on the Blackberry eReader software, so I knew it was this ebook file that had an formatting error.
I emailed Fictionwise and explained the error and asked if there was any chance the could fix the error and republish the eReader version so it would display correctly on my Blackberry. I got a response from Lynn at Fictionwise telling me they had pulled that version of the ebook, refunded the purchase price and apologized for my trouble. This company really is good at customer service and as a newb to ebooks I hate that earlier in this thread I questioned whether they were a legit company. They are legit and its easy to see why B&N bought this firm. I've got to convince them to debit my MicroPay account again, because even with the errors, the Bb version is readable, just distracting. I can't delete it though because the only other two versions are Adobe and MSLit, neither of which has a Blackberry reader. Anyway, Fictionwise rocks! But does anyone know why their site is down tonight? The eReader.com sister site is down too. I'm looking forward to B&N's re-implementation of an eBook Store if the Fictionwise crew is at the helm. They seem to be a quality outfit. |

Fictionwise is my favorite bookstore and has been for years. (Since they were very small publishing mostly short stories). As you've found if you have a problem with their books or even software they are quick to help out. (In my case they even sent me an old version of Ereader Pro I bought waaaay back because I just plain liked it more!)
![]() They have the best selection for multi format books, and if I do buy a DRM book I always use their format as it's the most portable for my selection of devices. (WHich does now include the blackberry!) |

I would like to use fictionwise and take advantage of their sales and micropay, but every book I've wanted there has not been in Multi format or PDF for my PRS700. Since I don't do any conversions of formats for my 700 this causes a problem. I have several books in my wish list and am hoping sometime they become available in a format I can use.

But yeah, FW seems to have dropped carrying anything new in either Adobe offering (epub or PDF). The last book they added with a PDF option was in January of '08. Last edited by AnemicOak; 04-03-2009 at 02:52 PM. |

I just was browsing Fictionwise a few minutes ago and noticed that all the eBooks with 100% micropay rebate are in eReader format ONLY. Yes, I know they own eReader. But most of us do not use eReader. It seems Fictionwise is carrying less and less in MS Reader and Mobipocket formats.

I see there all St. Martin's (Macmillan) books. That publisher seems to have a complete lack of direction when it comes to ebooks. You can't predict what they'll do with any given months releases, not to mention their back catalog. |

So is this going to bea new trend at Fictionwise to offer eReader only for the 100% micropay rebates?
