This may still be a curio piece not mainstream just yet.
Actually WinCE means that several eBook applications will already run on it with having to recompile them. WinCE may offer the internationalization without much effort.

Does anyone else remember the Radio Free Vestibules? I can't read Fujitsu FLEPia without thinking of Phillipa and Denina.

We have to have a first-to-market before we can have improvement. I'm happy about it even though I'll never buy this model.

Good news... Although this specific reader is imho barely usable (much too slow screen) this is the first device of a new generation. Others will follow and will have to be better (cheaper or more/better features).

This stuff pushes the limits. Good for us all - even if we're not considering buying one.

No, it's not eInk. Based on previous threads about this device, it's a variation of LCD technology.

Anybody know anything about these formats? A search for "XMDF" leads to either a modeling language or to entries talking about Flepia's release. I'm not even gonna attempt to search for ".book" (I already have a pretty good idea how many results that will return) ...

.book is also known as "dotBook", you might get a bit more hits with that. I've looked at it some time ago, it was basically a package of basic HTML with custom tags and pictures, bundled with some compression and propietary obfuscation into a containter file. Didn't investigate XMDF closely. It seems to be based on some kind of XML markup.

Let us celebrate the small beginning.
This is indeed a big step forward from a "possibly" dry and plain B/W screen. Reminds me of old films and the TV sets. I still remember when color TV sets costed a fortune and people used to say, is it worth that much?

But my line of thought is: If i am going to pay so much, at least i want all that is existing with the competition(formats, language) and throw in the additions..that validates the price tag. Hence my tag of a curio.

But still, this is a definite step forward..
