You can share your list on Goodreads

Yes you can share, that was important for me to share my list with my kids.

Yes. I think so. There may be an option to make a book private, but I am not sure.

I know that librarything.com allows for you to set your catalog as public or private. I don't see a book level setting.

Me, I'm pretty much dedicated to specific authors. When I find a book I like, I look for previous books by the same. Read those until I run out. After that, I double check the publication dates to see is a book is a recently pub.

I'm a fan of LibraryThing, it has a recommendation system, like Netflix or Amazon. GoodReads is more of a social networking for books and recommendations are from friends/people. And all my friends are dumb.

It will certainly be worth the price: GoodReads is FREE!

I found it worth the time to add all of my books by using the search feature to return all of an author's works. Then I just made a quick subjective assessment rate (1 to 5 stars) and that added the book to my bookshelf. Later on a few books, I went back and wrote a few thought about the book, but only on a few.

Well... "There's no such thing as a free lunch." when you will spend hours adding all your books, and rating them, and tagging them, and...

It actually did cost me

Bob, you are correct in that it did end up costing me.

I discovered a few books I hadn't read yet by authors I've read and loved. So I just had to acquire them to fill that void. If I hadn't cataloged what I have read, I wouldn't have know what I was missing.

Its been a worthwhile cost so far.

Glad to hear it. An account at goodreads and/or librarything is definitely something every reader should do.

Yea, my LT account cost me (no not the $25 lifetime membership) because it lists the series of all your books with no little check marks next to the ones you are missing. I am still filling in my missing Star Trek books.

I also just started using LibraryThing.

DH loves to read also. Just cleaned out the library and you wouldn't believe how many duplicates we had. Sometimes, he purchases second copies of books because the originals were getting delicate (Hemingway, Tolkien) and other times we bought the books at the same time (grisham). We're hopeless.
