...and a very beautiful one, as dog-headed people go, I must say. Lady Blue no doubt meant it in the form of "the Man Lost It in the Confinement of His Vehicle" (with appropriate capitalisation)...you know, as a non-gender-specific philosophic metaphor for the transient nature of life and our frustrated search of the restrictive universe for concepts of meaning and purpose and loose change while the importance of living within reality passes us by...or something.

Everyone dreams of escape. The problem is, few can face the world out there. Working everyday, traffic, bad economic news, ....
Can I go back to that nice padded cell now? ![]() |

That's EXACTLY the point I was going to call her on. Sheesh -- 0557 and she's awake? Last weekend I was reading a great book and forgot to go to bed until 0400 (well, ok, the clock change forward helped it be that late). I *never* accidentally get up at 0600. Yawwwwnnnnnnn.

[QUOTE=montsnmags;392015
Just out of curiosity, can you describe what a "continental breakfast" is to you? Cheers, Marc (11pm and close to bed)[/QUOTE] A continental breakfast is an absolutely horrid rendering of the lovely morning repasts found in most European hostelries. It is normally composed of rather plastic appearing bagels, stale overly sweet pastries, fruit past it's prime, various brands of cereal, toast, waffle batter with an iron to make them on, pre-made sausage gravy, which is almost certainly hamburger and not sausage, biscuits that will become hockey pucks in their next incarnation, watered down apple and orange juice and coffee. Ahhhh the years spent as a sack rabbit!!! I used to revel in the sleeping in events. I often placed first when I was a member of the Colorado Sleeping Team. Unfortunately a mogul taken wrong a couple of years ago ruptured both my MCL and ACL in my right knee. Sleep just isn't the same. Skiing is! but sleep has suffered immensely. Anyway, I have arrived. The trip was 1023 miles. A hundered miles longer than it needed to be. I stopped for gas in Yreka just after getting into California. I rolled the windows down a bit as it was getting quite warm. I thought I had them up far enough to prevent kitten escapes... but... south of Weed I knew for certain I had not heard the kitten jingling or *meeping*. I had been calling her quite often which she almost always responds to. With heavy heart I turned back north to the gas station fearing the worst. I asked at the station, but no one had seen her. I left her description and my phone number along with a reward offer. I got back on the highway southbound again feeling quite sad. Just north of Orland the van shuddered and I heard a shredding noise. Fearing I had blown a tire, I pulled over to the shoulder, no flat tires. hmmmm. I started up again and a few miles later the same thing happened all over again. This time the noise appeared to be coming from the engine compartment. Opening the hood, I discovered that the serpentine belt was seperating. Fortunately I was quite close to the exit and I limped into town and found a mechanic still open at 5:15. Miraculously they changed the belt and I was back on the road 30 minutes and $93 later. I cried for quite awhile as the whole time I was there, the windows and doors were wide open and my last dimming hope that the kitten had secreted herself amongst the luggage vanished. I hung my hopes on her micro chip and the good graces of humanity. As I neared the larger cities and dark I tried to put myself back together as the traffic was much heavier and seeing through tear misted eyes was dangerous. I finally made it to the road the house was on and went to the wrong house first. They kindly redirected me alllllllll the way to the top of the hill. When I got back into the car, my ears were met by the most wonderous *jingle jingle jingle* and then a *meep?!* and my little Pywhacket was in my lap giving me head rubs and nose kisses! I finally got in just before 10 Friday night. I have to tell you guys, I have been on pins and needles. I rented this place sight unseen off of Craigs List. Of course just as soon as I rented it, I started hearing all manner of Craigs List horror stories. Well the house is very nice, beautiful hard wood floors throughout. The landlord is mostly absentee. He comes very rarely and occupies the smallest bedroom. Another housemate is an Army Captain stationed where I will in fact be working. He is on leave down south at the moment and will return next week. He has an Italian Mastiff that is crated or tethered all the time, (which I think is horrid, but oh well), and that dog has thus far taken an intense dislike to my dog. Hopefully when the master returns that will be better. The final housemate is a rather interesting man. I quite expect to stumble upon him perched on the side of a rock smoking a pipe wearing buckled shoes. He is all of 5 feet tall if he is wearing a shoe with a heel, he sports a well groomed beard and is more often that not smiling. He is primarily the caretaker here, and apparently writes some music. He is a rather unusual character. I am slowly settling in, and still combatting fatigue from the trip and all the excitement just in getting here! |

I think she just decided to hibernate her way through it. I was so incredibly sad, yet I didn't have that hole in my heart feeling.

I too am so glad that the kitten reappeared.
I expect that she hid because she was frightened. None of my cats ever liked being in a car. |
