Why so many buttons when you have a touchscreen? Why? The whole point of the touchscreen is to get rid of buttons, like Sony PRS-700, for example.

To make things clear about WiFi: The BeBook 2 does not have an included WiFi connection but will support a WiFi SD card (which you would have to buy additionally). 3G on the other hand is built-in.

all sounds great except touchscreen which entails losing contrast - contrast and readability being the reasons for the existence of e-ink ..
looks like a great device, if they got rid of the buttons and had a larger screen to give better visibility counteracting the loss of contrast from the touchscreen id buy one !

WDE.
are you guys talking about that attached picture from the first post? to me the screen looks like a "normal" photoshoped draft. its sharper than the plastic surrounding it, thats just too sharp (and of yourse its way too white, too)

or are you talking about some other pictures???

Do you have to have a card that is longer then an ordinary SD card for this? I had such a card to my Palm T5 and it was very annoying since you could not keep it in the device all the time.

Eye-Fi has been doing this for about a year now for digital cameras - cards are standard SD card size.

I have not seen this product in person and only from the photos in this thread but to me, Sony's PRS-700 still wins in the design category. It's very professional looking and well-designed.

Interesting product! Never heard of it. i wonder if it could work with digital readers that have an SD slot.

I don't want to get rid of all buttons... Some buttons are very nice to have, like page scrolling buttons and menu buttons. I use a touchscreen device right now (a PDA) and I never use the touchscreen to go to a next screen. And it's much easier to go to the "home" of the device with a button than with a gesture on the screen.

And, as those buttons are on the bottom (except the page turning ones, they are on the side), you hardly notice them.

I agree, the Sony does look awesome, but I think I would miss some buttons there...

The photo has obviously been photoshoped. But everything except the screen looks correct.

I did ask about a dictionary at one device...

Hmm, but which one.... I think it was in English, so I guess it was the BOOX... Or did I also ask it at the BeBook?

Sorry, I've forgotten, can't help you there!

It's amazing because quite a while ago I when people started talking about wanting WiFi for the Sony 505 and alot of people didn't want it... I suggested that it could be done as an add in SD card.

Everyone lambasted me and told me it wasn't possible. Now, we have a device that is going to take this approach. I feel vindicated.

I don't see what's so radical about it. The CyBook Gen1 did WiFi using a card goodness how many years ago

It may not have been on the Sony 505. To add a wifi card to an SD slot the driver must be available. The slot itself must support I/O operations, many do not. Technically it must be an SDIO slot but none of the eBook folks have advertised that feature. If the driver is built in or could be reasonably added then it would be possible if you are not using the slot for eBooks or can give up that function. Note that the driver is likely specific to one brand of wifi card so if built in you are likely locked to the one the manufacturer chose.
