Actually,I have a 17 year old. 18 in September. I'm a non trad student. And Oswego isn't a metropolis, that's for sure, so the public transport actually has even LESS reason to be crowded, so the huge bags are even more of an issue because people set them on a seat and insist that they have a right for that bag to be there. If the bus is crowded that day, or the bus system is using the mid size buses, this can become a real issue. And again, I have had my nose broken because a women was toting bricks in her "purse". She was every day of 50, had no children in sight, and no diaper bag, and I'm very proud to say that my nose gushed all over her bag. And for some odd reason, after my yelp of pain the first time, she swung around, huge bag on shoulder and slammed my face again.(that was when it broke) No, not on purpose, but lets face it, those mid size buses are small, she was a daily rider and knows this, and probably needed half of what was in that bag.

I did the diaper bag thing, and yup, I'm organized enough that I offended fellow parents by managing to carry all of what Tarquin (the boy child) needed in a fairly small diaper bag. I'll admit I'm good at packing. I can do two weeks in Toronto and manage to have only 2 pieces of luggage (one for each of us).

And I don't do just public transport either. And climbing into someone's car or truck is (and yes I know whine whine whine) a pain if its cold, raining and etc and I have to wait while someone shoves their carry on daily purse from the front to the back when I know for a fact that in that bag there are maybe 10 things she NEEDS to carry.

Again, I don't hate purses, or women, or women who carry purses. I dislike anyone male or female that insists on carrying a ton of things that they don't really need that day. Legitimate things you need for you kids, yourself or a trip are hardly the same thing. But really, flower bulbs?? I'm still figuring THAT one out.

My bag is big, but it squishes flat, so it doesn't attack people. It's not too heavy either, thank goodness.

I can safely say I never carried flower bulbs in it either...

Good save!! But, I think men are pretty important too. I mean, who would do all the heavy lifting (my big purse not withstanding)?

I think maybe thats your true complaint......not the purses themselves.

Try not to judge what people do or do not need. Thats a personal decision. When you have a baby of your own, you might have stuff in your bag that someone else doesn't think you need to have there, but it'll be there for a reason. Same for stuff in a purse.

As women, purses contain our lives a lot of times. You apparently have it together, and nicely so. Thats a good thing.

As you grow older, marry and have a family, you might find it won't be quite so easy.

I've noticed as I got older (and so did the kids) my purse got smaller. I used to carry around a huge bag too. Now I carry around a small back pack. I have my wallet, book/kindle, phone, ipod. That is it. If I need anything else, I carry a small tote. It is awful to be on the subway with a big bag, uncomfortable to. I'm glad those days are behind me now.
