A pack of 20 cigarettes is around £5 ($7, €6) but in the pubs you can pick them up for £2.50 or thereabouts.
wow, that's crazy !! in some bars you can buy cigarettes here too (fewer than before though) but they are always *more* expensive that at the tobacco shop, because the bar buys them from the tobacco shop and then adds 1€ for their trouble.

you can't buy any software or dvds in bars though.

Maybe i should clarify. They're not sold by the pubs in any way, they're sold by individuals who come into the pubs. These individuals make tobacco and alchol runs to countries like Bulgaria to buy cheap booze and ciggies, they they come back and sell them in the pubs. The owners don't mind, they get a cut or free ciggies and booze. All the other stuff, the electronics and what have you, have -- fallen off the back of a lorry

Case in point. I buy 50g tobacco pouches for £5, they cost around £12-13 officially.

aah, right, now i see. we get those "under the coat" vendors here too, but they are selling cheap toys with flashing lights, or roses, or lighters. i think tobacco sales are pretty closely regulated and while the police turn a blind eye to peddling roses and lighters (and watches made in china, and whathaveyou) they would not be so lenient with cigarette sellers.

Ahh glorious happiness, the roads cleared up and I picked up three packs for my trouble. I feel sooooo much better.

They have ski lifts, maybe they use them to carry stuff up the hills.

Marc was wishing for an escalator the other day.

I'd Fedex you some of our snow, but I have a feeling it'll melt the second it hits Aussie soil.

I finally quit (for a variety of reasons) when the smoking laws became so Draconian here. There's nothing quite like spending a relaxed evening with friends and drinks at a bar/pub. Having to get up periodically, interrupt the conversation and go shiver your tukus off in the parking lot, just didn't cut it. As a result, everything cut back. I only "hang out" at bars when I am teaching skiing (at the end of teaching) and when I am staying on the mountain.

I haven't been to a bar just for the hell of it since I quit smoking.
