One that I find myself thinking all to often is STFU (for Shut the F*ck Up). It's usually applied mentally to some annoying person in my vicinity, and followed by many virtual exclamation points.

The best TLA I've encountered was explained to me by some NASA engineers. It is CSD, for Catastrophic Self-Disassembly. After all, mission control clearly can't say "Oh My God! The rocket BLEW UP!!!" Instead they say (in a calm voice) that "the mission has experienced a CSD event."

Oh .... so THAT's what I experienced on the highway ... a CSD!!

Although, I suppose it was really more of a CTD (catastrophic truck disassembly).
