I see what you mean.
Too much of details for me though.

And a bit too much of theology as well, though maybe I could take it if other aspects were more appealing to me.

Yes, if you're not keen on theology then I can certainly understand why you wouldn't enjoy the book!

The first book of Ricardo Pinto's trilogy. Rich imagination, great and original worldbuilding... But so boring! The whole book is an exposition, barely a story. Of course, reading about the main protagonist being pounded in the bum and liking it, didn't help. Not that there's anything wrong about an homosexual protagonist.

The Bible. I'm not sure what edition. In my opinion it's fictional and it's not very good fiction.

Spycatcher. I only bought it because of all the hooha when it was published. Forced myself to finish it. Can't remember anything about it now.

It's a collection of all sorts of different type of material: mythology; very dodgy history; even more dodgy biography; and finally epistles (letters), which are certainly "non fiction", even though many are certainly not written by whom they claim to be written by (but, equally certainly, some are).

Well, I certainly don't want to start a religious arguement, but I'd still argue it's all fictional. The letters, if they are genuine are written about fictional events. Even if there's some shred of history there.

Of course, just my own opinion. I don't believe in gods, faries, goblins, ghosts or Jesus, Santa Claus, or the Tooth Fairy. But anyone is free to believe in any or all of them.

I'm currently reading "In the Beginning: The Story of the King James Bible" by Alister McGrath.

It's about the birth of printed books and the machinations behind the creation of the King James Bible.

The scholarship of "The Beginning..." has been criticised but I'm finding it fascinating.

(Disclaimer: I'm an atheist).

I did watch a Stephen Fry documentary about paper, which did go into a little bit about the effect it had on the reformation etc. That was interesting, although to be fair I can't remember anything Stephen Fry has done that he didn't add quality to.

"Twilight Eyes" by Dean Koontz. Such a terrible book, overly wordy and his narrative/descriptive style was very poor. I used to enjoy his books when I was younger, after a 5 year break I've come back to one and it seems very poor.

I just finished Orwell's 1984. It's one of those books that as a Sci Fi fan, I've always felt is a must read, and so many people praise it. I just didn't get it though. Most of it read more like a political treatise than it did as a novel, and a treatise with holes in it, and no counter-suggestion to make. And the rest of it was just needlessly bleak and depressing.
