I have a PC with Windows 7, no reports of issues here.
Also it may be a motherboard driver issue? I am assuming you have tried plugging it in to every USB port on your machine, some USB ports are hubs (as mentioned earlier), also some may share IRQ slots? (technical jargon, but basically just test every USB and check for new motherboard drivers) |

Windows 7 and Kindle (Two upgraded machines)
I have a Dell Vostro 200 and a Acer Aspire One (8.9 inch) Both dual boot running windows 7 ultimate. XP and Kindle works on both machines. Windows 7 explorer hangs on both when I try to open the kindle. So, it is not a front back issue, but a driver issue I believe, any help is appreciated. I did try resetting the Kindle, no difference. Updates are current.

Windows 7 64 bit / Kindle 2 ... nary a problem. Asus MB with Intel quad core and 12 GB memory.
(... 12 gigabytes ... I shudder even typing that ... my first computer was an Apple ][+ which came with 16k of RAM and we upgraded to 64k ... it didn't display lower case without adding an extra chip ... the operating system, and WordStar, and the file I was working on ... all fit in 56k RAM ... holy whatever ... 12 GB ... LOL!) 12,000,000,000 vs 16,000 ... oh my .... |

Tried the Kindle2 in the empty pair rear USB ports, worked fine, no Explorer hangs like the front USB port (or the rear port that's shared with the mouse).
Tried Vista32 on the same PC, front port worked great. Vista64, same front port hangs Explorer. Definitely a Vista64 issue. Got the latest chipset software from Intel installed as well and SP2. |

If you are using internet then remove cable of net.And if your system is now producing some errror related to compatibility then go to device manager and then take action with universal serial Bus controllers like install etc.

is it possible that front usb ports are usb1.1 not usb 2.0? I've seen some machines configured this way as keyboards and mice don't need usb 2.0

No issues in Device Manager and ports are all USB 2.0. All the drivers install correctly, no errors, but some ports just don't work with Kindle2 in Vista64 for me. Oh well, it's no biggie, I rarely hook up my Kindle to my PC anyway. Plus I'm going Windows 7 in a few months, so I can wait it out.

update of earlier post - 2.3.3 now works

So maybe there is a change in 2.3.3, since it now works in two computers running Windows 7 where it did not before (although it did work in the back of the Dell running windows 7) (thanks for the tip). Last edited by ibm650; 02-19-2010 at 12:59 PM. Reason: clarity and extra info |

Kindle 2 and DX USB issues
I thought I would give a different perspective on the issue that might jog some techies ideas on the issue. I have a HP Laptop running Vista and can load my Kindle DX just fine but cannot load my Kindle 2. The Kindle 2 will not load no matter which USB port I use and I have tried reboots, different startup configurations, connecting with the Kindle 2 live, etc with no luck. Does anyone know what the difference might be between the Kindles that might cause this issue?
