I just turned 33 - Christ age called in my home country. My colleague is a bit younger than I am and he is going to buy at least Cybook, so not only older people are reading books...

I'm 50 even though I was 49 when I bought my K1. I'll be sending either the K1 or the K2 on to my very computer savvy 71yo Mom soon.

I believe a large number of our population is in my boat. AARP members with medical or health issues that prohibit or restrict the use of "regular" books. This format is more than a breath of fresh air for me. It is a second chance at my passion.

Having said that, the remainder is most likely 30-ish folks with some disposable income.
Sure, there are scatterings among college folks pursuing degrees with a passion for reading. But, overall.... my money is on the folks who found it harder to make the purchase financially.

Navy dad makes some really good points. But, factor in some other realities of aging and I don't really feel we have all the money. It is the people that are still drawing wages.

There is a similar thread on Amazon and the average age is 50. I was surprised at the number of 60's and 70's e-reader owners. I think the Kindle is a great boon for older folks who can read the larger fonts and also have audio options too.

But what really disappoints is that it takes them 24 months to move from HB to pback - that's just greedy.
I remember seeing in a release blurb of her latest book that it "most certainly would NOT be going on a Kindle!" and as I recall Kindle specifically was mentioned. I was kind of sad to see that.

poll?

I'd be happy to post a poll but I wasn't sure what it should be. Should it be what YOU think the average age is? I wasn't sure that would be meaningful, but now that I think about it, maybe.

Maybe just capture the average age of users on this forum. It might be somewhat skewed, but from the comments it already appears we have a 30 to ~70 spread.

I'm a huge fan of "young adult" (which I prefer to call "juvenile") books, as you can tell from the amount of it I've uploaded to MR!

I was going to ask the obvious question, but my to-read list is too damn long from this place already.

What's "the obvious question", Bob? Titles? I'd recommend for a start the "Tom Swift" books. I've done 5 volumes of those with 5 books in each, so those 25 books should keep you going for a while .
