I couldn't control myself...I had to get one.
Hopefully someone out there will be interested in my K1 with an original M-Edge red jacket come February 25th. ![]() |

Would existing velcro matter? I bought on of the Oberon journal covers (not the covers specifically made for the Kindle) and added velcro, against my better judgement.
Or, the Kindle with velcro PLUS the Oberon journal cover - for $275 (since that's what the cover cost) ? Last edited by badgoodDeb; 02-09-2009 at 06:05 PM. |

I ordered, after all, my K1 is going on 15 months old - that's ancient in gadget terms
![]() Actually, hubby is interested in my K1. I suspect when he sees the K2, we'll be selling the K1 in order to get a K2 for him. He's read a novel or 2 on his iPhone, I'll be interested in his impressions of reading on e-ink vs. lcd. |

If I don't like the K2 it goes to my mom, if I like it I'll ship the K1 to her. Either way it's a great Mother's Day present.

Except for the part about going ahead and buying a second. I'll keep using my current Kindle for minimum another full year or longer unless it dies. Of course, I just paid $600 in car repairs today, so I don't have a spare $360 laying around right now. |

I'd ordered the kindle1 five minutes into the original press conference, and I ordered the kindle2 as soon the refreshed page showed it available at 10:15EST today. The text-to-speech option was too good to pass. The 16-shades greyscale's not bad either. And though the new cover's an add-on, the whole package comes close to my former preferred device, the PRS-505

I'm not ordering a Kindle 2. I'm happy with my Kindle 1 and I don't like that they took away the SD card. I already have 144MB used on my Kindle, plus 3.5GB on my 8GB SD card.
It does have some nice features, but not enough for me to switch. |

Admittedly, I was tempted. Just because its faster and slimmer. But I can't justify the spend as the Kindle 2 doesn't offer any real reading advantages for me over the Kindle 1.
If I sell my Kindle 1 (which to me is the same as Amazon offering an upgrade deal), I'd still add the cost of a new cover , extended warranty, as well. So I am going to keep my Kindle 1...I still have 5 months on the Amazon warranty and another 2 years from square trade after that. If my Kindle dies in that time, then I can upgrade for small money and until then it does what I need it too. |

Well, I preordered as soon as the link came up on Amazon's page. After all this time on the fence, I decided it was time to go ahead. I'm already having some second thoughts, given the loss of the SD slot and the lack of native epub and pdf, but I have until the 24th to think about it (probably much longer than the 24th, given the backorders

I wanted to, but going to wait
Wanted to buy the new one, however I have only had the v1 since the big Oprah sale. So could not justify it. Besides it would have to catch up with me. On a ship on deployment and we don't stay put.
Mine is working fine for now, I love the Kindle. Want to see a bit more competition in the market and see what develops before I upgrade. I see a lot of hints out there for some great ideas, want to see what happens. |

I have been debating between Kindle and Sony 700 for my first reader. I like the looks and the size of Sony a lot more than the K2, but the simplicity of buying books from Amazon won me over and I ordered a K2 as soon as the pre-order page went live.

I ordered one the day before the announcement, assuming that there would be functional improvements over the previous one and, having seen the pics, knowing that it was going to look a lot better. I even qualified for the first batch of the new ones and was slated to receive it on the 25th of this month, but when I thought more about it I decided to cancel my order.
Ultimately I just can't justify the expenditure right now. My PRS-500 is working fine, and with Calibre up and running for all of my news and conversion needs, I don't see a huge advantage in the WhisperNet right now. Especially since I work from home a lot and haven't been traveling much. The new K2 is definitely the device I will be upgrading to at some point, no question about it. And don't get me wrong; I think all the features of the new Kindle make it the top ebook reader out there right now. But right now I can't see spending $400 on it while my Sony Reader is still working. Sometime in June or July I'll probably get one though, and who knows - maybe they'll have reduced the price to $300 by then. |
