Well if its so difficult il stick with pdf but i remember that my prs 500 was reading greek in lrf format it feels a bit strange that iliad cannot. And to lilac_jive dont bother with modern greek it does not have anything to contribute. Ancient to modern greek is like day and night

That's because LRF files allow you to "embed" a font in a book, so the required font comes along with it. Unfortunately MobiPocket books do not have this capability.

The iLiad can, you just need to use the right format. LRF on the PRS-500 embeds the Greek font into the document just like PDF on the iLiad can. Mobipocket doesn't do that. In this case it's a problem with the format you want to use, not which device you have.

Thumbs down

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't checked the forum for the past few days. I also read greek btw and in a few occasions I have converted text files (html/rtf) to prc using Mobipocket creator and I am able to read the outcome on the Iliad without any issues at all. I have created a sample file from a webpage which I can read on the Iliad. (It s a web page that I ve grabed from the web just now) Since mobipocket for iliad displays greek characters I suspect the problem is in the pdf conversion. I am attaching the prc for you to check.

Hi Fermthe,
I ve tried your file on my pc mobipocket reader and it doesn't look ok either. The accented vowels ά, έ, ό etc are presented as blank squares. I tried to read the prc on stanza and I got chinese instead of greek. I believe that your problem occurs during the conversion of the file from pdf. If you can send me a a page of a pdf file you have tried to convert unsuccesfully I can try converting it for you and hopefully provide you with a method of doing it yourself. (I use mainly free conversion tools btw)

Please can you confirm that this book is free from copyright? I have disabled the attachment until you do!

Fermthe,
the reason that I have asked for one page only of the pdf was not because it is an extra burden to convert the entire book but to avoid possible copyright issues as HarryT has mentioned. If the book in question is not copyrighted then confirm this to HarryT so he can enable your pdf attachment for me to download. If it is not then next time attach only a page or two which I beleve is not a problem.

HarryT,
are you OK with Fermthe posting only 1-2 pages of the document, regardless its copyright status so I can check if there is a problem converting it?

Hi Fermthe,
I think I ve found what the problem is. You are trying to convert from Greek Polytonic text. I have never tried that before.
I have managed to do it somehow but the outcome can be read only with Stanza and not with mobipocket reader or fbreader. You 'd better convert your texts to monotonic.
If you are not sure how PM me.
