Strange - mine has NEVER crashed while reading a Mobi book (not since they fixed the dictionary lookup bug which made dictionary lookup crash with early versions of the firmware). Have you reported the issue to Bookeen?

Mine has only crashed with Mobi books when paging back in a book with large images, like my Goya series. Page forward is fine, but page back causes a reboot. It could be due to images being considerably larger than 64KB.

Are you not using Mobi Creator to create your books? It will automatically resize images to <64k. That's why illustrated Sony books are generally so very much larger than the Mobi equivalent - the Mobi images get resized, the Sony ones don't.

I have seen crashes with MobiPocket books but that have been incorrectly generated books. I think that if the HTML code contains Java-script the risk for a crash is high. Also if you have two <body> in the HTML code I think it crashes or does not read the file.

No, I use MobiPerl's html2mobi, and I "hacked" it to not resize large images. These large images seem to work fine in the desktop reader and in the Cybook (except when paging back, but I'm not sure that is the only reason), so I prefer them, as they have weaker compression artifacts and could be used as "archive". When I publish them here, I also post a version with the images reduced to below 64KB.

Yes, I think it's only the old Palm versions of Mobi Reader which won't handle >64k image size, due to the Palm's segmented memory architecture. The Pocket PC version handles them OK, as well as the versions you mention.

The last couple of crashes happened on startup (I always switch off the device after using it).

I also use txt a lot. Many books are bought on Mobipocket or Fictionwise...
The others are (always) built on Mobipocket Creator...

So I really don't understand the crashes either... But, and as I said, once a week is not serious or too disturbing since I use my Cybook nearly everyday.

(completely off topic: does anyone knows when will be available Mobipocket Creator for Windows Vista? Windows 7 is already on the door, for God sake!!!) Did Mobipocket give up on this software? Or as Amazon ordered them NOT to upgrade it?!

I get the occasional hang on startup - I think everyone does. Nothing like as often as once a week, though.

What is wrong with running it on Vista? I do it all the time, it runs great

What on earth is happening with me?!!!

My Cybook crashes when others don't.

My Windows Vista does not run Mobi Creator (some stupid error appears) and it seems it's happening only with me!!
(no wonder no one is talking about it!)

I will try it out again, and I will reinstall Vista if necessary!

Oh, and no, I didn't report my crashes to Bookeen. As I said, I just got used to it, expecting next firmware would solve it...

Yea, mine will do the "green light lock"* every couple weeks as well as the occasional startup hang.

-----

*Green light lock: when paging through a book, book freezes with the green "active" light in the corner shining steady instead of the quick blink it should be.

Mine hangs on startup perhaps one time in 50, something like that. It's literally never hung or rebooted while I've been reading a book, though.

I would check if the memory is corrupted. Is it repeatable that the same book always crash? If so I would run som chec ksum program on the file on the Cybook to see that the file is not corrupted.

A file created with MobiPocket creator should not crash. Is the crash always after you have read a txt file or can it crash after reboot directly with a MobiPocket file?
