Which is good if you're buying from publishers like Tor or Baen. They seemed to have quite a few popular titles listed, from my cursory search.

Also:

We are working with Kobo to support Kobo devices later this year.
Whether that ever happens or not, at least they're thinking about it.

I don't think that they are thinking of changing anything. They use Readium, so probably LCP so probably they are "waiting" for Kobo to add LCP support.

I cited a source from EDRLab confirming that Readium LCP support would be coming to Kobo eReaders in 2026, but I've now heard directly from someone at EDRLab that it will be late 2026.

So, the timing lines up with Bookshop.org's.

Well, I won't be reading any books with Readium DRM on my Kobos. That's because I sideload all my purchases after disinfecting.

Maybe it'll be possible to remove their DRM via this route, though.

As long as Kobo continues to offer ADE support, it doesn't really matter if they also have LCP. If Kobo drops ADE and goes exclusively to LCP, I'll just stop buying books until somebody cracks LCP, and then it'll be back to business as usual buying and decrypting my books. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The problem is that EDRLab has used DCMA complaints to have several LCP DRM removal tools taken down. It's very likely that any future LCP DRM tools are likely to be private and remain private to avoid takedown notices.

Well, if people have found ways to share illegal copies of books, movies, games and whatever, I'm sure a way will be found to share DRM removal tools, once the LCP DRM is sufficiently widespread.

If Kobo switches to LCP, I'll stop using buying from Kobo.

If Kobo was to go LCP, I hope they would also keep Adobe Adept.

I would expect that if/when Kobo went to LCP, it would be cracked shortly after (if not before).
