This does fix it. I sent a test book and when opening the device, the status and progress column shows it as a kobo epub, while the others are all vanilla epub.

In fact, when opening the new book to try it out, I was presented with an intro of five screens explaining the Aa menu items. This did not happen when the books were all epub.

So thanks again for the advice.
