Here's what I was thinking about how people could influence the avatars. (It's the "karma" part of the name.)

1 - If people click on the link in your sig, they can add karma to your avatar, and it will "grow," i.e. get more detailed.

2 - A user could select some particular, pre-defined areas in which they would like to be able to grow, and if the viewer clicked on that particular term, the karma would go to that aspect. So let's say you decided you're interested in growing in the areas of "Helpfulness" and "Silliness." If I thought you'd been helpful, and clicked to give you karma, I could select "Helpfulness" and you might get a wizard's hat. But if Marc (not to name names) clicked and decided to give you karma in "Silliness," you'd get a sock over one ear.

Then Zelda comes along and gives you more "Helpfulness" and you get stars on your wizard's hat, and VR gives you more Silliness and you get puppet features on your sock.

See how this would work?
