To be fair, no-name brand syrup would probably also be hard to get out of your computer.

One thing I've found to be rather disgusting is a computer where the user smoked a lot near the computer and it's all covered in tobacco crap and on the inside.

Oh god. I had to scrub out my mother's computer a few times. The tar literally gummed up the fans.

OK I'm not entirely sure what all these messages are about, but going back to the last one which asked me a question.

I switched off McAffee and tried again and it still did not open. I have now just uninstalled Calibre off my laptop once more and I am not going to bother with it and just hope that Amazon don't do anything ridiculous with my Kindle books, which is the only reason I downloaded it in the first place.

Thank you to all those of you who responded, but clearly something is no longer working right somewhere and short of buying a new laptop (which I am clearly not going to do!) I can't see any other way forward.

Did you tell her never to smoke near the computer?

Luckily I only had to do it once. but still, I really hated doing it.

No luck getting her to listen. She's also the type of person to park illegally when it suits her.

Try this before giving up.

Add this as an environment variable, reboot, and install calibre 8.0.1 an see if it works.

Code:
QTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--disable-gpu"

??How would you see a Yellow box. The TVs were only B&W.
Even after color, there were only a few shows a day in color.

I don't think NY sewers have improved in all these years.

Thank you, but I have already uninstalled Calibre now, and am thinking I probably should never have bothered with it in the first place. I really don't have that many Kindle books as I do actually prefer physical books, but I got a Kindle last year as a present and so afterwards did buy a few Kindle books.

I never considered downloading copies of my Kindle books until I saw the YouTube video which brought all this about.

Anyway, thank you once again but I won't trouble you all anymore.

I think he refers to the name of some characters.

Exactly. One of the characters is referred to by the same name as that of the program that comes in the yellow box.
