I'm attaching a zipped CSV of my calibre configuration directory (52 items), it has grown considerably over the years. The items with a date of 2022-08-09 were created after I restored the directory from a backup. I do wonder if I need every thing that's in there.

I expressed concern over the number of items in the calibre configuration directory, not the amount of disk space it consumes.

I should have been more specific. What I question is whether I need all the files in the directory (there are 38 of them), many of the file names suggest they relate to features I don't use… e.g. add filter rules, editor snippets, server, device connection, editor plugins, tag mapping etc.

FTR: a fresh install of calibre 7.1 portable has 8 items in its Calibre settings directory, four sub-directories and four files.

For anyone who hides signatures (as I do), mine is "Less is Better, Least is Best."

When I look at the calibre directory in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\calibre, there are 733 files and 64 directories consuming 65.9MB of disk space. When I look at the plugins directory alone, it contains 393 files and 46 directories (including plugins). Of the remaining 340 files, 259 are found in the viewer\annots directory with most of those files containing [] so a 2 byte file.

See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4379142 to put in your opinion on these files in the annotation directory.

I did mention that my library lives on a 2TB drive? For me, the space used by the annotation files is not worth worrying over so whether or not Kovid decides removing the 2 byte files when the viewer is closed is a matter of indifference to me.

You can use bisection to find the offending file or its part: put the configuration directory into an archive, and remove files by halves until the problem resolves. Restore the problem half and repeat.

That is the entire Log? Something is blocking a lot of initial background processes from starting.
