If their books pop up on Kindle Unlimited, that's an instant boycott for me.

To mangle Shakespeare, the fault is not in your stars but in yourself.

My eyes are bad enough to need glasses or contacts. But even they can read a cover as obvious as this:

I dunno man. I have gravitated to buying from Kobo. But Open Road has a lot of good stuff.

So are my previous purchases (though Nor Crystal Tears is still 'unavailable in Canada') and the books from my wishlist. (Good thing I was too lazy to delete them at the time!)

Could this have been some kind of stunt for Amazon Prime Day?

What they could do is make all the volumes into an eBook omnibus and then call it complete.
What it says on the cover is "The Complete Short Fiction of Greg Bear Volume 2." That means there was a Volume 1 and there might be a Volume 3, 4, 5, etc.

My daughter gave me "The Complete Calvin and Hobbes" in four volumes a few years ago. Should I expect each volume to have all the Calvin and Hobbes comic strips?

And if I bought a single volume on eBay, should I expect that volume to be complete? Book 3 of the hardback version of "The Complete Calvin and Hobbes" is being sold separately on eBay...

Would you expect that single volume to have all of the Calvin and Hobbe strips?

(Maybe you're just trying to pull my leg. My "humor" bone doesn't always work too well these days.)

Were new copies of the books sold separately, or bundled? If the latter, the eBook version should be combined, imo.

Perhaps even if sold separately, they should be sold in one eBook. eBooks kind of eliminate a lot of the 'split apart because the book would be too long' issue.

It appears that they were published in paperback in three separate volumes as a series. I guess that's why each volume has a different title. Kind of like The Lord of the Rings, which was only a "trilogy" because Allen & Unwin thought they were going to lose money on it so, to save paper, they planned to print fewer copies of each succeeding volume.

I can see both sides of that argument. The Lord of the Rings can be bought as a single eBook or as three eBooks. The separate volume versions sometimes (usually?) come with more features and illustrations.

The word complete short fiction means that all of the short fiction is available in that one book. Volume 2 could mean that it's a 2nd edition due to a number of different things.

according to J.R.R. Tolkien, Lord of the Rings was supposed to be one volume. It was the publisher that split them.

I purchased my specific edition (eBook ISBN 9780007322596, HarperCollins 2022) based on a recommendation from a friend. It has a bunch of additional appendixes and also a pretty lengthy foreword about the history of the different editions.
